NASCAR is an indescribably tough sport. Thousands of aspiring drivers try to fulfill their dreams of reaching the Cup Series, but only a select few make it to the premier competition. But those that don’t end up doing some of the most inspiring things too.
Among the scores of such drivers was Hermie Sadler III. Sadler was heavily involved in NASCAR for over two decades—first as a driver, and later on, as a reporter for FOX. He also worked as a promoter in professional wrestling before moving on to own small businesses in Virginia.
But his most drastic career switch yet is to come in the foreseeable future. Sadler will be contesting for the primaries of the 17th Virginia State Senate District seat as a Republican candidate.

He told FOX News, “…when I got off the road to come back full time to run our family business, that’s when I really started to pay more attention to government and how it’s run and, more importantly, how it can impact communities like I live in.”

“A lot of people are frustrated, concerned, want to know why things are not getting done, why things are not changing for the better. And I hear a lot of people complaining about it, but nobody’s really trying to do anything about it,” Sadler said. As Sadler explains, his experiences with the government were what led to him making this switch. He wants to change things.
Taking lessons from his time in NASCAR
NASCAR and politics—at least for an outsider—aren’t too closely related. But that’s a statement bred in ignorance, and Sadler would probably be the first one to point that out.

He explained how his personality and character were molded by his various professional pursuits over the years. “Man. I’ve done a little bit of everything. I’ve never been afraid to try new things… I’ve learned things that I’ve been able to apply, and not only in my business but in my everyday life.
“So for all those life lessons I learned along the way on the racetrack, commentating for Fox, being involved in professional wrestling, and all my other business interests, they’ve all helped mold me to bring me to this point.
“And when I follow these people, when they get elected and get into office, I see a lot of them going to a lot of cocktail parties… But you know what? When I drive to work every day here in Emporia, not much is changing.”

Sadler’s statements show how driven and motivated he is to bring meaningful change. Hopefully, the (ex) NASCAR man will do it well.
