On Monday, Chip Ganassi Racing conveyed one of the greatest shockers of the 2020 NASCAR season. The season stays on hold on account of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Whenever it resumes, Matt Kenseth will race in NASCAR’s cup series for the first time since the 2018 season.

Matt Kenseth said that if someone would have asked if he would race again he would have said ‘no’. Kenseth told NBC Sports, “I probably would have told you no.”, “You just never know what life is going to throw at you”

Kenseth joined the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in the year 2000. He won the series’ Rookie of the Year title in 2000 and the championship title in 2003. Kenseth went on to race in ‘The International Race of Champions’ in their 2004 season as the defending champion and won the season title. In 2009, he won a rain-affected Daytona 500 and repeated his performance in Daytona 500 year 2012.

His return was well received by fans and critics alike. Journalist Steve Luvender even posted a joke tweet claiming that Matt predicted his 2020 run back in 2009.

Reasons for Matt Kenseth NASCAR return, Crazy Reddit Theory

Many fans are coming up with their own theories of ‘why Matt returned after so long?’. A Reddit theory by a user named ‘ConnarK5‘ says that he is only returning to defend his ‘last Rockingham winner’s title’.

“Matt Kenseth is only coming out of retirement to defend his title as last ever Cup winner at Rockingham and NASCAR will announce a fanless race at Rockingham during the quarantine.” Earlier this month, NASCAR announced that the classic track will be making its virtual debut in an iRacing Series.
