As the Hendrick Motorsport duo of Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson prepared for the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals back in 2020, both the drivers appeared on a podcast talking about the preparations for the event. During the podcast we saw Larson attempting to flatter Elliott, only to be shot down.

Larson said, “…I don’t think he’s gonna be unprepared at all. He’ll probably be the most prepared driver going in there. So, you know, I think he’s gonna do fine, and he’s a talented race car driver. So talented people seem to have success, even when things are new to them.”
Elliott said, “He’s been too nice to me through all this. But I do appreciate all the help.”
Larson interjected, “Forgot to text you back last night.”
The Elliott said, “No, it’s all good. I’ve worn you out so sorry.”

Larson concluded with “No, you haven’t.”
What is the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals?
The Chili Bowl is an indoor midget racing event which takes place on 1/4 mile short tracks laid out with dirt. The format remains as an oval racing event and has been going on all the way since 1987. The race takes place at the Tulsa Expo Centre every year and is also considered to be the “Super Bowl” of Midget racing. Over the years we have seen countless sporting icons take part in the massive event, while some have succeeded and others have not been so lucky. Either way, it is definitely an amazing experience for both the fans attending and the drivers participating.

This race has seen drivers from across all forms of sports such as NASCAR or IndyCar come down to participate. Back in 2020, in addition to winning the Cup Series Championship. Hendrick Motorsport driver, Kyle Larson was also crowned the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl champ.

Other drivers such as Christopher Bell and the iconic Tony Stewart have also been regulars at this event. Bell has been a three-time winner of the race, while Larson and Stewart have won it twice. The race is not short of its incidents, where multiple drivers, even the likes of Chase Elliott have had major flips. Yes, cars flip over in this race too, thanks to the tall body and compact construction of midget race cars.
