Ford drivers, especially Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski, have had a slew of inconsistent performances throughout the 2022 season. In light of this, Ford’s Global Director Mark Rushbrook has come clean, explaining the reason for their lack of performance during a video conference.

Rushbrook said, “I don’t think the struggles we’ve had this season are related to that (preseason tweak to the car’s nose). The process that NASCAR has to submit your cars and get inside the box for parity is a good, robust process. Certainly coming online with an all-new car and the need to revisit that just before the start of the season was the right thing to do for the sport and everybody is inside that box.”

“We feel there’s parity and an equal playing field for all three manufacturers to compete.”

He added, “In my opinion, pounding on the hauler isn’t the right way to go about it because the sport has changed. The rules are the rules and everybody’s got to race within those rules, so we just need to optimize within those rules like all the teams are.”

Keselowski opened the race with a good show of pace but was quickly sent to the back after a slew of spins and tire problems. Despite falling through the cracks, he managed to gain 8 spots swiftly before the end of the race. Alas, he finished in 20th place.

After a good qualifying performance, Brad started the race from the 12th position but spun on lap 6. That sent him all the way back to 25th place. Before the penultimate lap, he had to dive into the pits for a fresh set of rubber as had spun once again. Within the final lap, he sliced his way through the field, going from 28th to 20th by the time the chequered flag was out.
