Kyle Larson took home his 4th Turkey Night GP win a few nights back. The victory and the many more that preceded it in dirt tracks are all a reflection of his love for midgets and sprint cars. But as it appears there could be more than just passion behind Larson’s affinity for them.

In a recent interview, NASCAR’s youngest champion and RCR-bound driver, Jesse Love spoke about his own love for dirt racing and how it helps him achieve excellence on the paved tracks. Listening to his reasoning, Kyle Larson juicing out time to race dirt began making a lot more sense.

18-year-old Jesse Love became NASCAR’s youngest champion when he won the ARCA Menards Series West in 2020 at the tender age of 15. As we head to 2024, he is poised to replace Sheldon Creed in the Xfinity Series car of Richard Childress Racing. Notably, he also goes into next season as the champion of the ARCA Menards Series. Appearing on YouTuber Eric Estepp’s channel, he spoke about what toughened him up to achieve much in the top levels of racing.

Attributing his time behind midgets and sprint cars, he said, “That’s part of the reason I still run dirt. It is because like all the sketchy stuff I do in a stock car you don’t even think about… Like, it doesn’t feel sketchy at all. So when you do it in a midget, it feels sketchy as hell, right? Like you’re going really fast and the thing wants to flip out of the park every lap. And, in a Sprint car you’re just you’re going Mach 10 the entire time. So it makes the pavement stuff feel so much easier.”

Jesse Love’s revelations are well backed by the awards that he has accumulated so far. In just his first full-time season in the ARCA Menards Series, he has turned out to be the champion.

Jesse Love began racing when he was just five years old. Throughout his career thus far, he has been the “first” to do some incredible feat in almost every series that he has raced in. He was the first to win the USAC Dirt and USAC Pavement Championship in the same season and he was the youngest to ever win a NASCAR-sanctioned racing series. Talking about his love for speed, he said as reported by the San Mateo Daily Journal, “It is a certain born with or not born with thing. Due to the grace of God, I was born with it. The speed stuff definitely helped me as a kid but you still need to find ways to separate yourself from other people as you get older.”

At Richard Childress Racing, he will take over the No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro that the out-of-favor Sheldon Creed drove in the 2023 season. Hopefully, his sessions racing in midgets and sprint cars will aid him in reaching more peaks in NASCAR just like it has done for Rick Hendrick’s driver Kyle Larson.
