In an interesting development, there are talks of Floyd Mayweather establishing a NASCAR team. The boxer initially had plans to field it in the Cup Series in 2020, but it never came to pass. Now, the newest plan suggests that his ‘The Money Team Racing’ will back Spire Motorsports in 2021.
Later on, the famous boxer plans to buy a Spire charter for the 2022 season. This will help the fledgling outfit run on a full-time basis. Apparently, the team tried to buy a charter from Spire Motorsports, but Team Trackhouse beat them to it. The deal would involve partnering with one of the cars, and TMT would help fund Spire and search for sponsors.

It is worth noting that Team Trackhouse’s lease for 2021 only lasts for one year. If a team wants to go beyond a year, they must form a partnership and/or co-ownership with the other team.
Will we ever see Floyd Mayweather launch his TMT team in NASCAR?
Admittedly, Mayweather is not the first big name to throw his hat in the NASCAR ring. There have been others, like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, though his attempt was grounded before it could take flight. However, NBA legend Michael Jordan has finally taken the final step with a full-fledged team, car, and driver.

It is only a matter of time before Mayweather gets his NASCAR team up and running. However, there has been no word on the boxer taking the next step. On the other end of the scale, the athlete is hoping that the Spire Motorsports talks bear some fruit. Only then can Mayweather entertain the idea of actually setting up his team.
It took a lot of planning for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin to set up 23XI Racing. Eventually, they navigated through many hurdles and are on their way to kick off the 2021 Cup Series season.
