At last weekend’s Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin had a rough day in the office. After many battles and surviving a few wrecks, he eventually finished in 17th place, which was a bit disappointing. This loss means that Hamlin would have to wait another year to try and snatch a fourth Daytona 500 victory. During the race though, he was part of a number of shenanigans—one of them involving Joey Logano.

Hamlin mentioned in his Actions Detrimental podcast, “He came off pit road and he gave me the bumper and was shoving me. I was like, ‘F**k you, pal!’ How do you not know that we’re four-wide here?

“Ten seconds later, he pulls up the side of me and gave me the old hand wave, like ‘Ok, I got it, I know.’ That’s the sign of ‘they told me what happened, we’re good.’ I was just pointing to the cars below me, I pointed to those cars. Their fault, not mine.”

Obviously, this was not the best start to his campaign, but the driver will have to move on. At the Clash at the Coliseum, he had managed a 9th-place finish, so Hamlin will be hoping that his fortunes improve in the coming races. Additionally, as long as he and Logano stay out of each other’s way, the better for their own peace of mind.

The next race on the calendar is at the Auto Club Speedway. This will actually be the speedway’s last race with the current configuration before it undergoes a massive revamp. Aside from that race, there are plenty more to come in the 2023 Cup Series calendar.

In other words, Denny Hamlin has plenty of time to redeem himself and snatch a few wins. To date, he has never won the Cup Series championship, so he will have that extra motivation this time around.
