NASCAR’s experiment of the Chicago Street Race was a daring adventure that came with plenty of surprises. Despite it being a successful affair, there have been doubts over the possibility of another race from the newly-appointed Mayor. This has nothing but annoyed veteran spotter Brett Griffin.

With the lightning disruption, waterlogging, the infamous Turn 6, and Shane van Gisbergen’s victory in his Cup Series debut, the race in Chicago was a memorable experience for various reasons. However, there were instances during the last weekend that have brought a lot of scrutiny.

It is no secret that Brett Griffin enjoys being very straightforward with his opinions. Following the Chicago race last weekend, he was left fuming about quite a few things. To start with, he is livid after the new Mayor Brandon Johnson’s recent-most announcement.

Prior to Johnson’s appointment, a deal was signed officially that confirmed NASCAR races taking place in Chicago for three years. However, the 47-year-old Mayor has announced that his office will assess this deal as chances of them opting out of this agreement loom large.

Naturally, Griffin is unhappy with this approach. In the recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, he vented out his frustration. He said, “So NASCAR is coming in there with teams with NBC and NASCAR is spending tens of millions of dollars. I’ve heard north of 40 million dollars to come in and put this show on.”

While Griffin accepted that it’s all about money in this case, he’s worried about how team owners, TV partners, and his other peers could be at risk. Reacting to this, he said, “So for you to say as a city, you don’t know if you want us back for the next two years and we can’t already be selling tickets and talking about it, then that leader can f**k off.”

That being said, that’s not the only thing he’s upset about. Griffin was disappointed with how things were run during the weekend, especially with the NASCAR Xfinity Series race shortened and The Chainsmokers concert canceled.

He said, “It’s an absolute embarrassment to what we do for a living to not be able to finish that race on Saturday afternoon and have the concert and have all of those fans that invested all of their time and hard-earned money to come in and have the experience that they deserve. So, I will stand on the hill and f**k the city of Chicago’s leaders.”

Unsurprisingly, these statements from Griffin brought out many fans defending Chicago in their own way.

Safe to say, Brett Griffin has a reputation for strongly sticking with his opinion. Despite being hammered earlier for his take on Chicago, he continued his rant on the Door Bumper Clear podcast. Clearly, there was going to be a backlash of some sort.

Fans came out voicing on Twitter to slam the Kaulig Racing team member. His tweet in continuation to the podcast rant got quite the bashing.

“Newsflash: Everybody else is an ignorant dumbass idiot except for Brett Griffin.”

“I really do think you have something wrong with you emotionally. Not sure what it is, but you give off vibes.”

All said and done, it doesn’t look likely that Griffin would change his stance or approach. It would be interesting to see if he does something in this context or has decided to indeed end the Chicago discussion.
