Over the course of just a few months since his triumphant debut, Supercars champion, Shane Van Gisbergen‘s NASCAR career escalated like no other. SVG swept across the city lanes of Downtown Chicago like a wild storm, bringing the fire and fury of the Aussie promotion to beat the Cup Series regulars on their own turf, making history, cleaning out the grid to reign supreme in the organization’s first-ever street course.

Ever since then, the 3-time Supercars champion has been in the headlines for all the right reasons. And in recent happenings, he is yet again in the news. This time the 34-year-old has revealed his new fire suit for 2024. Taking it to his social media, Gisbergen shared the image, indicating a possible split from Mark’s Project 91 as he takes up his full-time responsibility in the #97 Kaulig Racing Chevy.

The atmosphere was chilly, eerie, and cold as the ominous torrential rains approached the city of Chicago. It rained cats and dogs, drenching NASCAR’s makeshift race track in Downtown Chicago. The conditions signaled the imminent storm that was about to wreak havoc. That was pretty much what happened next when SVG devastated the whole grid when trouncing his Cup Series competitors on the rain-drenched surface, laying waste to the entire roster to take home the win.

While fans thought the Project 91 driver was all done and dusted with his landslide debut victory, the driver revealed his desire to race in America in stock car racing’s elite promotion. Consequently, Gisbergen decided to make the switch, announcing his farewell from V8 Supercars to take on NASCAR’s premier drivers.

The next step was securing a ride. The Trackhouse Racing association got the Kiwi a nice opportunity at Kaulig Racing to race its #97 Chevy under a noteworthy collaboration between the two teams. With the NASCAR nation already anticipating his ARCA debut in Daytona next month, the driver broke the internet, dropping a new post, indicating a possible split from Project 91.

The driver teased the community with a new racing suit for his 2024 endeavor. While the racing gear had the Trackhouse Racing badging on the front, on the back the entry number was noted as #97. But does this mean a complete departure from Project 91? Well, though we can’t confirm anything for now, the #91 Chevy will probably be reserved for guest drivers and international talents as it was originally intended for, given that the Kiwi is set to make his jump to the Cup Series.

Out of his two NASCAR starts, SVG has one victory and a top-10 finish in his two starts in the organization’s elite division. While he is an absolute monster in road courses, his inexperience in ovals is in fact something the driver and his team should be wary of. And that’s exactly what the driver and his boss had in their minds.

For 2024, SVG will be at the helm of the #97 Kaulig Racing Chevy taking on the Xfinity Series, Truck Series and ARCA roster before he transitions into the Cup Series. “We know Shane will be incredibly competitive at the road course events in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series, but we wanted to get him as much experience on NASCAR ovals as possible, so I am really excited about his 2024 schedule,” said Marks according to Forbes.

The anticipation for this season is palpable.”
