The playoff battle for the 2022 NASCAR season has been heated up to this point. There also have been several controversial moments, with the Bubba Wallace-Kyle Larson altercation being on top. However, as we head towards Martinsville Speedway for the next round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, many questions arise about whether the sports favorite Chase Elliott or the infamous Ross Chastain will lock themselves in.

Both drivers have shown amazing performances this playoff season. But if one thing separates the two rivals it would be that Chastain happens to be one of the most hated drivers on the grid thanks to his aggressive driving style. On the other hand, Elliott is often considered the golden boy of the sport, mostly because of his massive fan base.

But when we compare it down to performances, the watermelon man seems to outshine the Dawsonville native, even without a single win in the playoffs. Chastain currently has zero wins but 5 top-tens in the playoffs alone, while competitor Chase Elliott has one win but only two 2 top-tens.

Fans chose their driver pick between Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain

While most fans obviously picked their favorite Chase Elliott, quite a few suggested that Chastain had a good chance, arguing that his driving had improved during the playoff races.

Fans also argued how Chastain had made himself a fair share of enemies on track and how that could prove to be a hindrance for him as they head to Martinsville.
