NASCAR’s female driver Hailie Deegan has had a successful year in the ARCA Menards Series. The 19-year-old NASCAR Truck Series hopeful has two top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes in 14 starts so far, driving the No. 4 DGR-Crosley Ford. Even without a win, Deegan is third in the points standings.
Hailie Deegan also expected to run a few Truck Series races this year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the scenario completely, limiting her plans and taking her “back to square one”. Deegan explained the situation, saying funding was hard to come by.
“Money is still tight. ARCA is expensive. At the beginning of the year, we were going to be in the clear to do a few Truck races,” Deegan said during a media interaction.

Deegan explains her NASCAR Truck Series situation
“What actually happened is, with the whole COVID deal and everything, everyone’s budgets with what they were going to get extra on top of what they had already signed was cut. So then we had to start from square one again,” Deegan added. However, Deegan has not given up on her Truck racing plans.
“We’re still trying to figure everything out. Obviously I would love to do truck races this year to see if it works out. And try to figure out if it will help me with my plan next year too,” she added.
Deegan had even higher expectations for the 2020 season, and the pandemic stalled her progress. With limited practice and less than expected experience on the big tracks, Deegan has not been able to achieve her 2020 goals. She still wore an optimistic look, describing the overall outlook.
“I wouldn’t call it a lost year. I haven’t gotten everything out of it that I was planning on. But I think we’re making the best of it,” she said further.

Deegan gave the interview in the comfort of her bed and was relaxed during the interaction. A Twitter user then sarcastically pointed that out and took a dig at her. Deegan replied in a fitting manner.
Sorry. I was testing all morning since 6am and rushed home in time to make it for the interviews. Considering there were people working inside my house and it was very loud I felt like my room was the best spot to do it since it was quiet👍. My bad https://t.co/mmdo2fF66n
