Richard Childress Racing star, Kyle Busch’s race at Gateway Motorsports Park has resulted in his first DNF finish of the season. Busch’s No. 8 car was involved in a heated battle against the No. 5 of Kyle Larson in the final lap of the Stage 2 run. Larson tried to make a pass but was repeatedly blocked by Busch.

After making multiple contacts, Larson’s car got loose on the turn and rammed into Busch, making hard contact with the wall. The damage to No. 8 car was beyond repairs, and he had to take an exit from the race. Frustrated with the ordeal, Busch, after the incident, said in an interview, “I’m sure it’s my fault.” Whereas Larson, making his arguments on the radio, said, “I mean he turned into me.”

Rowdy perhaps has an outside chance to get his breakthrough result of the season after running inside of the top 10 spots in the race at Gateway. However, just when he thought he could end stage 2 on a good note, running seventh, Larson tried to make an aggressive push. In a desperate attempt to keep his track position, Busch did try to block the advancing #5 car, but the situation soon turned south on him.

Larson, trying to thread the needle in the corner, got extremely loose and made contact with the #8 RCR car. While both ended up crashing on the outside wall, Busch suffered the knock-out blow, while the HMS star was able to continue his run further. After two mediocre finishes in his last two races, this certainly wasn’t the best result for Busch and RCR.

Sharing his thoughts on the incident with Larson, the 2-time Cup Series champ stated, “Yeah, you got pretty good eyes, so I’m sure it’s my fault, but hate it for my guys, everybody on the Rebel Camaro. We can’t afford days like this, so just hate it for them and trying to race for playoffs spot and gradually falling there a little bit, and he got loose and wiped us out.”

Although Larson is known to have a good reputation for racing cleanly, fans were livid to see him resort to dirty tactics for the sake of a few playoffs points.

Even if not a win, it could have been a good points day for Kyle Busch and his #8 team had he finished inside the top 10 places. At a time when his playoffs spot hangs in balance, this result will only add more tension and uncertainty in the RCR camp.
