NASCAR‘s 2023 playoffs have left fans in shock as they witness Rowdy struggle to find his footing. The most recent chapter in this disheartening saga unfolded at the Kansas Speedway, a venue with a long and tumultuous history for Kyle Busch.

Known for his prowess on the racetrack, Busch‘s performance during a seemingly routine practice session took a startling and bewildering nosedive. What should have been a routine run quickly spiraled into chaos. The once-formidable Busch found himself in a situation he is unaccustomed to – dead last on the starting grid for the highly anticipated Hollywood Casino 400.

The first installment of this heartbreak came at the Indy road course. Starting the race in the 5th position, Busch had his sights set on a top finish, consistently running in 4th place and challenging the front-runners. However, an untimely engine failure robbed him of valuable points. As the engine trouble plagued him, Busch found himself a lap behind the leaders, struggling with excessive drag that hindered his car’s speed.

Radio communications captured his frustration as he exclaimed, “Something’s slowing me down. I’ve got drag. Like, I don’t know what’s happening.” Expressing his frustration on Twitter, Busch hinted at his struggles by retweeting a post from August 14th that read, “I just don’t know anymore.”

Dubbing the current post with an “X2,” Busch hinted at another engine failure since the Indianapolis road course incident. At Indy, Busch went as high as P4 in the second stage and crossed the line at P6 after starting fifth alongside Kyle Larson. Post the engine failure, he eventually lost positions till he dropped down so back that he lost a whole lap with it. Radio excerpts from the second stage show that he was experiencing more drag that forced the car to decelerate.

Kansas Speedway served as the backdrop for the latest chapter in Busch’s tumultuous 2023 season. During a practice run, disaster struck as a cut tire sent Busch’s Chevy careening into the unforgiving outer wall. The impact resulted in substantial damage, prompting the team to scramble for repairs, leading them to replace the damaged right rear quarter panel of the primary car with parts from the backup vehicle.

As a result, Busch found himself barred from participating in the qualifying session, a crushing blow to his aspirations for a strong starting position in Sunday’s race. With the grid set and his starting place now determined, Busch was relegated to the rear of the pack, facing an uphill battle on race day.
