Kyle Busch’s disappointing run continued at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In line for a Top 10 finish, he ended up with a P25 placing after a wreck but avoided a DNF. Yet the result didn’t dampen his sportsman spirit as he was seen helping Bubba Wallace during the cool-down lap. Bubba Wallace, who was later seen fist-bumping Kyle Busch, afterward appreciated the gesture.
The race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway had gone into double overtime, and by the time it concluded, many drivers were low, or simply out of fuel after a grueling and controversial finish. 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace was one of them, having finished the race in 5th place and closing the gap between himself and Ross Chastain to just seven points for the final playoff spot. With Wallace’s No. 23 Toyota spluttering as it made its way into the pit road from the cool-down lap, Kyle Busch played good samaritan by giving his car a nudge.

Rowdy has had a very frustrating season so far, but it could have been much worse. The Richard Childress Racing driver was running in the top 10 late in the Brickyard 400. However, with just three laps remaining, Busch entered Turn 3 too low, forcing his No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro to push up the track and collide with Denny Hamlin, which forced the Joe Gibbs Racing driver to retire. Busch, who has five DNFs already this season was luckier, as he could continue racing, but finished in P25.

Despite a rough day in the office, Kyle Busch’s kind gesture towards Bubba Wallace shows how much Rowdy has grown over the years. From being the one causing trouble, getting into fights, and causing commotion in his younger days, Busch has now evolved into a mature, senior driver in the Cup Series.
Fans will know that both the drivers are familiar with each other, as Bubba Wallace used to drive for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2013 and 2014, winning five races.

With 23XI Racing keen on expanding beyond a two-car team in the Cup Series, several drivers have driven a part-time entry for the team since the start of 2023. However, with Stewart-Haas Racing ceasing operations at the end of the 2024 season, Fox Sports journalist Bob Pockrass believes 23XI Racing will acquire one of its charters to expand its operations in 2025.
With rumors circulating about 23XI Racing buying a third charter from Stewart-Haas Racing, fans took to social media to push the team’s co-owner Denny Hamlin to sign Kyle Busch after Rowdy’s frustrating season at Richard Childress Racing.

Looking at Kyle Busch helping Bubba Wallace into the pits after Brickyard 400, fans didn’t miss the opportunity to speculate on the pair teaming up next season. Taking to social media, fans began speculating on Rowdy’s future, hoping that Denny Hamlin could free him from his struggles at Richard Childress Racing. Urging Hamlin to salvage the two-time Cup champion’s career, a fan wrote, “As much as I don’t like Denny Hamlin, him and Jordan should sign them to their team. Rcr hasn’t been the same since Dale senior passed away.”
RCR’s Cup season has been hard for Busch. In his second season driving for the team, Busch is winless after scoring three victories through the first half of the 2023 season. The structural changes at RCR haven’t helped either. On June 25, the team announced the retirement of Andy Petree, who had overseen the organization’s competition team. In his place, Keith Rodden was put in as the interim competition director.
Standing in Kyle Busch’s way as a potential contender for 23XI Racing’s third charter is Corey Heim. Currently serving as a reserve driver for the team, Heim has shown his capability in NASCAR’s lower ranks and could be a viable option for the permanent seat in 2025. Keeping that in mind, one fan wrote, “My man really tryna get out of RCR and into the 23XI seat while not helping Corey lmao.” Echoing that sentiment, another fan urged 23XI Racing to sign up Rowdy for the third car by saying, “Put him in the 3rd charter @dennyhamlin.”
Busch is 17th in the championship standings but 19th in the race for the playoff. He is over 100 points below the cutline and there is a strong possibility that he may miss the postseason berth for the first time in the elimination era.

A few NASCAR fans took Kyle Busch helping Bubba Wallace as a sign that the pair could be teammates in 2025. Remembering Busch’s five DNFs this season and the many challenges he has faced driving the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro, a fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Kyle doing all he can to get back into a Toyota.”
Interestingly Wallace had commented over Busch’s struggles this season and his winless drought. The driver has faced pit road issues, or struggles with the car throughout the season. Busch said, “It’s motorsports. It’s racing. Endure all the ups most of your time, right? So now you have to endure the downs and you have to learn how to navigate through them…It’s racing, gotta figure it out.”
Another fan saw their link-up as a sign of things to come, saying, “Confirmed, Busch to 23XI next year 👀.”

Despite his ‘Rowdy’ reputation, two-time Cup champion Kyle Busch has never shied away from helping others. Reflecting on how far Busch has come since the days he was susceptible to angry outbursts, one fan wrote, “Outside of his occasional rage fits, Kyle is probably one of the most old-school racers in the field. Teams used to help one another a lot more because they had to and it was good for the sport to see collaboration.”
