Days after Denny Hamlin became the center of controversy following his spat with SMI president Marcus Smith, one of the sport’s most veteran insiders is once again in the limelight for his comments against NASCAR and short-track racing. After the Martinsville race resulted in another week of lackluster racing on the half-mile circuits, Jeff Gluck pulled no punches against the officials, calling the whole ordeal ’embarrassing’ compared to the older days.
With that said, Gluck, who is now a part of Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Dirty Mo Media crew couldn’t believe just how engaging a snippet of his rant would be. Now that the NASCAR community is eating up Gluck’s comments against NASCAR, he felt the need to go over the events leading up to the clip and thoroughly explain his side of the story.

Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr shared his thoughts over Gluck’s regrets on the Dale Jr Download. Speaking about how Dirty Mo Media took a different approach to shipping snippets and clips and the entire podcast, Junior felt it was all a new deal for Gluck. Previously, Gluck had been running The Teardown podcast which covered the race weekend in great detail, but it was all long format. Fast-forward to Gluck’s campaign with Dirty Mo Media, and it was a completely different story.
Going over the difference in media coverage that caught him off guard, Gluck gave fans a further breakdown of what was running through his mind. He stated on X, “Before when we were doing The Teardown, it was just the podcast, right? So people either heard it or they didn’t. I never put out any clips to promote it (didn’t learn how). Well now I’ve realized with the great clips cut by the Dirty Mo social team, it reaches a way bigger audience (many of whom don’t actually listen to the whole podcast).”
Responding to @DaleJr in the video below: Alright, so here’s the thing. Before when we were doing The Teardown, it was just the podcast, right? So people either heard it or they didn’t. After accounting for the wide reach that Dale Jr’s media ventures have, Gluck exposed the double-bladed nature of his work. Although the prospect of having more eyes on his ideas was enticing, the fact that more people would end up viewing his ‘all gas no brakes’ rant also worried Gluck to an extent.
He concluded, “I also realize a LOT more people are going to consume it and therefore more people will be mad about whatever I said (which is fine and comes with the territory, but it can create headaches) So that’s why I thought, ‘Oof, this looks like a bit much’, the day after when I saw my rant. So many people staring at me as I vent is just an interesting new experience! 😬🫣😂”

While it’s safe to say Jeff Gluck still seems rather apologetic over his earlier comments about short-track racing, the NASCAR community stepped up and reassured the veteran over his fears.

Despite Jeff Gluck’s feeling that his words against NASCAR were too harsh, the community believes that the insider’s statements lined up perfectly with the fan sentiment. Gluck brought much-needed attention to the lackluster racing at short tracks and pointed out that NASCAR needed to dial things back to the past with more competitive tire packages and surface work.
As a result, fans immediately jumped to his defense. One user advocated for insiders and drivers like Gluck and Hamlin, elated that someone was stepping in to bring the fan’s voices to the table. The user stated, “Your opinions, and @dennyhamlin ‘s opinion, and DBC’s opinions about the short track package is way more relevant than @nascar and @GoodyearRacing ‘s inch-by-inch approach to fixing this.”

On the other hand, some looked to remind Gluck of his credibility as a veteran insider in the sport for decades. Users stated, “Jeff your opinions matter and are built off of years of covering the sport. If you feel a way about something, let it flow. That’s why we love your takes and content. Don’t change, being yourself is what got you to where you are.”

Now that fans had established whose side they were on in the Short Track debate, it’s safe to say Jeff Gluck’s woes may have been unnecessary. One user stated, “We love it Jeff, and you’re right on with this one. Be authentically you that’s what makes it great… or “perfectly acceptable” whilst another concluded, “Don’t change Jeff. Your passion is awesome.”
