The Red Bull Soapbox race has been active since all the way back in 2000. In other words, the 2025 edition is pretty much its silver jubilee. The iconic race has traveled all over the world, from the inaugural race in Brussels to last year’s race in London. This year’s edition of the Soapbox Race is supposed to be a special one as this time, Dale Earnhardt Jr is expected to be a co-host.

After 18 previous visits over the years, the Red Bull Soapbox race will be back in the USA in 2025. On the agenda are three unique events kicking off in Des MoinesSalt Lake City, and Los Angeles. Dale Jr. and Mike Bagley will be hosting the event when it hits these three venues. To be precise, thousands of fans will watch teams race downhill to be the fastest, all the while hearing from Dale Jr. and Mike Bagley.

But let’s circle back a little. What exactly is a Red Bull Soapbox Race? It is an annual event where amateur teams build and race homemade, motorless vehicles down a downhill course. Wait, it is not just a vanilla downhill course; it is one that is marked by obstacles and jumps. The judging criteria, you may ask? Creativity, speed, and showmanship. And it is a rather popular event that has managed to attract thousands of spectators and enthusiasts.

The first time the Red Bull Soapbox Race visited the US was in October 2006 at St. Louis, Missouri. 11 months later, the venue for the next race was Seattle in Washington, before moving to Providence two weeks later. 2008 saw the race head to Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, and a month later, stop off in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later Denver, Colorado. In late August 2009, Atlanta, Georgia, hosted the race before a pit stop in Los Angeles, California.

Following a two-year gap filled with a few international destinations, the race was back in Los Angeles. In June 2012, Atlanta hosted the race for a second time, before a September date with Dallas, Texas. Two years later, in August, Seattle hosted the Soapbox race again, and a year later, it was Cincinnati’s turn again. October 2015 witnessed Atlanta get a third chance to host the race, before it went to Los Angeles for a third time in 2017. Cincinnati hosted the race for a third time in September 2018, before The Colony, Texas, hosted the race a year later.

Following a three-year gap, Des Moines in Iowa, hosted the Soapbox for the first time. That would be the last time the USA has hosted a race, until now, and American fans will be treated to three venues. LA is gearing up for its 4th time as a host, while Des Moines is hosting for the second time. Finally, Salt Lake City in Utah is making its host debut. And this has left all the racing fans excited!

NASCAR fans will be thrilled to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. back on TV screens

Without a doubt, Dale Jr. is a hugely popular figure in the NASCAR community. For years, he dominated the Most Popular Driver award, and with his personality, it is easy to see why. One fan mused on Reddit, “Yall think we’ll ever see another driver break into mainstream popularity like Jr did?”

Some fans of the event also pointed out something that would please many people. They said, “So many people here unaware that tons of Red Bull Soapbox Race events have already happened and its all free to stream on Redbull.tv or youtube. These events are some of the most entertaining you will watch. Maybe this Dale Jr series means there will be more events in USA than historically.”

What’s your perspective on:

Will Dale Jr.'s presence make the Red Bull Soapbox Race a must-watch event this year?

Have an interesting take?

As we have mentioned before, the Red Bull Soapbox has taken place in the USA several times now, with some venues repeating as well. Notably, Los Angeles has hosted the Soapbox three times and is gearing up for a fourth time, while Des Moines will be hosting it for the second time this year. Additionally, both Atlanta and Cincinnati have hosted the Soapbox thrice so far, among others.

All in all, people are really excited, and more so, now that Dale Earnhardt Jr. is part of it. One fan cheered, “If this’ll be ANYTHING like the Red Bull Flugtag this will be fun as hell to watch.” For those unaware, Red Bull Flugtag is an international event where teams compete to fly human-powered, homemade flying machines off a platform over water. And mind you, it’s a rather creative event that gives rise to some quirky designs and often hilarious mishaps. But at the heart of it lies creativity, engineering, and entertainment.

Well, there is some hope for this fan as epic fails happen to be the common storyline between the two events. So yeah, buckle up for some laughter, guys!

And of course, since Soapbox is a Red Bull event, fans could not resist the iconic tagline, with some saying, “Dale Jr Gives You Wings.” Some also issued a few clarifications, “Not really a new show, he’s just an announcer I bet since the Red Bull Soapbox Derby is pretty popular.” This fan thinks that the 50-year-old is an announcer on the show only because of its popularity. While that’s that, one thing is for sure: when the race airs on April 29, fans will be glued to their TV screens.
