Celebrating its 75th anniversary, NASCAR has decided to update its official list of greatest drivers. In continuation of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers list released on the sport’s 50th anniversary in 1998, five new drivers will be added each week for five weeks to this unranked list. However, selected by a committee that comprises former NASCAR drivers, team owners, industry personnel, and executives along with current and past media members, the latest addition to the list has puzzled a lot of fans.
Recently, NASCAR announced the newest addition to its 75 Greatest Drivers list. It is the Cup and Xfinity Series driver, Randy LaJoie. He is the winner of the 1996 and 1997 Busch Series championships and the 1983 NASCAR North Tour Rookie of the Year award. Father to two racers, Casey Lajoie and current Cup Series driver Corey LaJoie, the Busch series driver made his Winston Cup debut in 1985.
However, as soon as the news of Randy LaJoie being NASCAR’s latest addition made it to the headlines, fans began expressing their disapproval on social media.

Moreover, a few others found this decision to be interesting. Despite applauding NASCAR for adding a non-Cup Series driver to the list, some fans commented that they could never imagine LaJoie making it to the list. However, happy to see the governing body recognizing the Busch Series driver’s talent, a few of them left some heartwarming comments on Twitter.
Honestly I never even thought about putting him on my list. He wasn’t even in my group of bubble drivers but I’m happy to see Randy get the recognition though.

It took me a bit but I am all for this. With his two titles and Daytona wins he showed great ability in the car and his work with seats and safety is just as pivotal. Great addition.
