Is William Byron the next Jeff Gordon, or is it just the paint scheme talking?
Have an interesting take?
It was Jeff Gordon who made the #24 car legendary, not just for his four Cup Series championships and 93 wins but also for his iconic paint schemes. His vibrant red and black DuPont car was unmistakable on the track.
DuPont, now known as Axalta Coating Systems, supported Gordon from the start of his career in 1993. Today, William Byron carries on that legacy with equally stunning paint designs for the #24. And, fans love how Byron’s rides reflect the same bold standards that Gordon set, keeping the #24 as eye-catching as ever.
Fans had their jaws dropped after the paint schemes were revealed
The paint scheme on the Axalta car had many fans reminded of when Gordon drove the #24. One fan wrote, “Major Jeff Gordon flashbacks.” And this is not the first time fans have been reminded of the resemblance. Even in the first Darlington race of the season, Byron had a Jeff Gordon throwback scheme. Representing the “firestorm” car, Jeff Gordon drove back in 2009 before it became a classic in NASCAR.

The black, red, orange, and yellow design is instantly recognizable, and the flames that appeared on many of Gordon’s race cars in the 2000s made it even more popular. And now it’s Byron who’s rocking the flames, and fans are loving it. One fan wrote, “Yes! Flames are back! 🔥🔥”
Another fan on the same lines has crowned it the best next-gen car paint scheme so far. He wrote, “This is by far the best Axalta scheme we’ve had on the Next Gen car! I hope we get to see that scheme run a lot next year!”
Well, Byron’s car had tough competition, as we have seen some great paint schemes over the years. Be it Reddick’s retro Michael Jordan-themed car or Denny Hamlin’s Coca-Cola car from Atlanta last year. But Byron wins the competition, according to the fans.

But the flames are what fans love! One fan wrote, “Oh that flame one is nice!” Not just for 2025 or this year, but #24 has always been blessed with striking paint schemes. And fans agree with that. One fan wrote, “24 had ALWAYS had top-tier paint schemes”
