With less than three months left to the start of the 2024 Cup Series season, there is plenty to look forward to. In a view to excite the fans about the proceedings and bring more clarity, NASCAR President Steve Phelps discussed several topics in a webinar on Monday.

While he stressed on multiple topics, his major subject of discussion involved the tracks to be used in 2024, the media rights, and the technical changes. As reported by nbcsports.com, Phelps indicated that other than NBC and Fox Sports, the sport could witness the addition of at least one more broadcasting partner.

One of the other important things discussed involved the commercial feasibility of the NASCAR teams. While Phelps confirmed that currently, teams are not making profits, the governing body will play a key role in changing that. With this remaining a tricky matter to resolve, there would be no change to the total number of races (38) on the calendar.

At the same time, Phelps confirmed that the governing body is deep-diving to improve racing at short tracks and road courses. However, what he said next was something worth thinking about. Phelps insisted that while the goal remains on tracks to sell out if a track with two races does not sell out, it is likely that the sport will move away from one of those events.

Having said that, he is ready to make an exception at tracks where “the racing is extraordinary.” To put things into perspective, the Daytona 500 witnessed a sellout in 2023. However, the regular-season finale at the track did not witness such a turn-up.

Just hours after Phelps made these comments, news came in confirming the complete sellout of the 2024 Daytona 500. With just 23 days having passed since the 2023 finale, it is certainly a stunning achievement. Unsurprisingly, it stunned plenty of fans, with several fans left disappointed about missing out.

We are just in November yet the 2024 Daytona 500 ticket sales have shocked many. With the grandstands and camping being sold out for the event, it is the ninth consecutive time that a sellout has been achieved. Most importantly, it is the earliest sellout the sport has witnessed in the modern era.

For a sport being claimed to be “dying,” NASCAR surely must be proud of this achievement. However, this news brought some painful news for their fans. The sole reason for this is missing out on being participative and witnessing the event live. To this, one disappointed fan on social media said, “And guess whose family still didn’t listen to the one thing she wanted for Christmas/birthday.”

Another fan just couldn’t believe this happening. He said, “A sellout crowd for the Daytona 500 announced this early is astonishing. Well done NASCAR and Daytona.” At the same time, one other fan expressed his FOMO. He said, “I was going to go as a graduation gift :(“

Safe to say, this was unexpected to happen this early. One fan said, “Sold out!?!? Dang it hasnt even been that long since the last race holy.” Another fan commented, “Man. But I ain’t mad. I’m impressed. LFG.” Among all these discussions, one fan came up with a sensible comment, “Now let’s sellout the rest of the schedule. And improve TV ratings.”
