Earlier, there was a pre-season NASCAR test at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, where the drivers were testing out and competing in the Next Gen cars. Many drivers like Brad Keselowski and Tyler Reddick loved the new cars.
Keselowski confessed that even though the cars are a lot more difficult to drive, he liked pretty much everything about them and was pretty excited about the challenge. It is clear that the difficulty is what makes the car a lot more fun because there is more emphasis on driver skills. According to him, it was like driving the 2005 Cup cars.
That statement caught the attention of former driver Michael Waltrip.

I ran pretty good in 2005. Maybe I’ll try again@

Waltrip even quipped that he was a decent racer around that time and would not be opposed to trying to make a comeback. Safe to say, there were some mixed reactions from the fans on social media.
What did the fans say about a potential Michael Waltrip return?
Some fans observed that in 2005, the driver had a decent season. This included three Top 5 finishes and a best finish of 2nd at the Phoenix Raceway. Around that time, he drove for Dale Earnhardt Inc. and was in his final season with them. Over the course of his Cup Series career, Michael Waltrip has notched up four wins. Out of those 4, three came at Daytona and the fourth came at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Of course, Waltrip’s declaration is likely in jest, because he is 58 years old now. He is no longer the spring chicken that he used to be. Additionally, it has been four years since he last stepped in a NASCAR car, when he finished 8th at the 2017 Daytona 500.

Instead, he will be more than happy to continue his commentary career, as it allows him to still be involved in the sport. In the meantime, Brad Keselowski’s comments will be music to the ears of NASCAR. While the response has been mixed, they can take comfort in the fact that most of the response is positive. What are your predictions for the new season, as NASCAR begins a new era?
