Dale Earnhardt Jr and co have been heavily invested in researching their move to the Cup Series. But, they are still left to calculate how the finances and profitability would work out. To clarify their stance, JR Motorsports co-owner Kelley Earnhardt issued a statement that was posted on Twitter by NASCAR journalist Adam Stern.

Stern stated, @JRMotorsportsis still exploring whether a NASCAR Cup Series program makes business sense, and charter asking prices being well above $20 million isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but the ultimate decision remains 50/50, per @EarnhardtKelley.

Earnhardt made it clear that they were looking towards making the jump, but were still left to figure out the economics surrounding the entire project. They also cleared out that they wouldn’t mind it taking out $20 million charters if the Cup Series dream were to become a reality.

Fans were excited to hear that the team has been looking at the Cup Series as a prospect for the future.

Fans believed that if it were to happen, JR Motorsports would immediately become the most popular team in the sport, thanks to the fact that it is owned by the Earnhardt family. People also stated how the wait wouldn’t be for long and some even predicted the season they would make their highly anticipated move to the big leagues. Another thing is to ask if Hendrick Motorsports would continue to support JR Motorsports in the case of the Cup Series. Would they then act like a sister team, or be completely independent?
