After moving on from his NASCAR duties in 2021, Kyle Larson’s former team owner Chip Ganassi has all his attention trained on the IndyCar series. Currently Ganassi’s team fields four drivers, #8 Marcus Ericsson, #9 Scott Dixon, #10 Alex Palou, and #11 Marcus Armstrong in the NTT IndyCar Series. Teammates Alex Palou and Marcus Ericsson currently hold the 1st and 2nd spots on this season’s IndyCar Standings. Six-time IndyCar champion, Scott Dixon holds the 4th spot and Armstrong is in the 17th position. Although Chip Ganassi Racing is enjoying the top spots on the IndyCar leaderboards, it seems things aren’t all that smooth behind the curtain.

Over time, CGR and controversy have become two sides of the same side of the coin. After making headlines for suing their star driver, Alex Palou last year, the team is one again the talk of the town as a new rumor involving Marcus Ericsson has got CGR owner, Chip Ganassi, on the wrong side of the fans.

Earlier this year, Ericsson had led on that he didn’t want to have his CGR ride as a pay driver. Speaking to Motorsports.com, Ericsson said, “I’ve said a few times now that I want to be treated as a top driver because that’s what I am in this series. It’s where I wanna be and hopefully we’ll get to that point with Ganassi. I feel like I deserve that.” Currently, Marcus Ericsson is without a deal for the 2024 season, and this season may very well be Ericsson’s last at Chip Ganassi Racing.

While team owner Chip Ganassi may have earlier said that he wants Ericsson to continue his IndyCar Journey at CGR, a recent leaked rumor seems Marcus Ericsson’s journey with CGR is over.

Based on the rumors, Kevin Lee mentioned on the broadcast that Ericsson isn’t happy as his $100 million worth team owner won’t pay the No.8 driver, wanting him to bring in sponsors.
