During the 2023 Daytona 500, most of the Toyota drivers were running riot and leading the race. That lasted until Bubba Wallace got bumped from behind and brushed the wall. In essence, the incident killed his car’s momentum, and he tumbled dramatically down the order. At the time, he was leading the race, and the Toyotas were locked in a fierce battle with several Ford cars.

Apparently, the culprit was his fellow Toyota compatriot, Martin Truex Jr. However, in Truex Jr‘s defense, he also got a bump from his own teammate, Denny Hamlin. What the trio was possibly trying was to get the tow off each other and protect themselves from the Ford contingent. The good news for the 23XI Racing driver was that he was not out of the race, but he did plummet like a stone. There were plenty of Bubba Wallace haters who were quick to blame the 23XI Racing driver and have a laugh.

It was a bit ironic for Hamlin to trigger the incident. After all, 23XI Racing is his own team, and Wallace is his own driver. Also, Wallace’s poor result, all things considered, might have made the 23XI Racing’s post-race debrief somewhat awkward.
