William Byron, who had won the last two races, was one of the drivers involved in a big crash. Chris Buescher, who was doing well among the leading drivers, had to quit because his car was too damaged. Aric Almirola‘s team made a risky choice with their tires and took the lead in the last part of the race. However, this strategy didn’t work out because Almirola hit the wall and had to leave the race.
The new layout of the Atlanta Motor Speedway is causing some trouble. The wind was strong, and the cars were racing very close together. Tyler Reddick, who was on the same team as Wallace, told his team that the dirty air was affecting the Toyotas. Chase Briscoe, another driver, said that the cars felt like they could spin out of control at any moment before the race started.
