Competing in the Australian Supercars Championship series, Shane van Gisbergen has had a successful career. Driving the #97 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 car for Triple Eight Race Engineering (branded as Red Bull Ampol Racing), van Gisbergen won the Supercars series championship thrice in 2016, 2021, and 2022.

With Trackhouse Racing?s #91 Chevy bearing resemblance to his Supercars series machine, the Kiwi?s NASCAR transition was flawless, allowing him to secure the win in his debut run. Committed to the Supercars series till the 2024 season, van Gisbergen expressed his desire to hitch a full-time NASCAR ride someday. But it looks like the Kiwi?s wishes may be fulfilled much earlier than expected.

SBJ?s Adam Stern in a recent tweet shared an article from V8 Sleuth, which speculates Shane van Gisbergen may end his Supercar series run post the conclusion of the 2023 season, joining NASCAR full-time in 2024. The caption on Adam Stern?s tweet read, ?Speculation has been rife that [Shane van Gisbergen] may depart at season’s end to pursue a full-time NASCAR career. By Sunday night in Townsville, many in the Supercars paddock were tipping this to be SVG’s final Supercars season. – @V8Sleuth?

Speaking to V8 Sleuth, Triple Eight Race Engineering team principal, Jamie Whincup said, ?We haven’t spoken if Shane wants to change the plan. For us, nothing has changed, we’ve got a solid plan in place for 2024 but he may communicate that he wants to change the plan and we’ll run through the process on what that could look like. I’m all ears but it’s not a simple thing at the same time so there’s probably a bit to go through. We’ll probably try to have a discussion sooner rather than later, for sure.”
