Fans of NASCAR are expressing their frustration and disappointment post the announcement that Phoenix Raceway will once again host the championship races for the Cup, Xfinity, Craftsman Truck, and ARCA Menards Series in 2024. This news comes as a blow to many NASCAR enthusiasts who have criticized Phoenix Raceway as “one of the worst tracks” for the sport’s biggest event.

The announcement was recently made by NASCAR, confirming that the championship weekend will take place from November 1st to November 3rd, 2024. The only other race that has been announced for the 2024 season is the Daytona 500, scheduled for February 18th. Since 2020, Phoenix Raceway has been the venue for the championship finales for the Cup, Xfinity, and Trucks series.

The decision has sparked a wave of negative reactions from fans, with many expressing their displeasure on social media.

Fans Bash NASCAR for Their Latest Announcement Surrounding the Phoenix Raceway

One fan tweeted, “As long as NASCAR has the championship format it has right now, it will never be a real sport.” This sentiment reflects a common Criticism of NASCAR’s playoff-style championship format, which some fans believe does not adequately determine the true champion based on consistent performance throughout the season.

Another fan expressed frustration, saying, “Oh come onnnnn, just go back to Miami for goodness sake.”

The reference to Miami likely alludes to Homestead-Miami Speedway, which has served as the host for NASCAR races since 1995 (Xfinity). Homestead-Miami Speedway was highly regarded by fans for its challenging and exciting racing.

Criticism of Phoenix Raceway as a championship venue is not new. Fans have long complained about the track’s design and its ability to produce exciting racing. One fan summed up the sentiment, stating, “That’s one of the worst tracks for the championship.”

“I remember when they said the plan was to alternate championship tracks. Phoenix was a great change of pace in the beginning, but it has run its course for championship weekend.”

“They should have it in Charlotte one year. Seems like it’s a lot more entertaining than short tracks and it has an emphasis on making adjustments and having good pitstops”

“They spent all that money on Phoenix so I guess they’re having to get their money’s worth out of it, but the racing there is subpar and that’s putting it nicely.”
