Sports represent all sections of society. As a medium to engage and entertain, sports—especially those that have a national or international presence—cater to everyone. The month of June pays tribute to this spirit. Pride Month celebrates inclusivity and generates awareness about people of all orientations.

NASCAR has also supported people from different schools of thought and cultures. Apart from entertaining fans with riveting action every weekend, some of the NASCAR drivers have also come forward to show their support for Pride Month. One such driver is Bubba Wallace, who himself has been subject to hate in recent times.

Representatives have come forward from NASCAR to show their support. One of the more active supporters of the movement is Truck Series driver and Victoria’s Secret model Toni Breidinger. Having joined the Tricon Garage as a part-time driver in the Craftsman Truck Series, she is also the first Arab-American woman to race in NASCAR. She recently spoke about her respect for Pride Month in an interview with WTA.

Talking about the meaning of Pride Month for her, Breidinger said, “Pride Month means love and equality for all. Some of my closest friends are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and they’ve taught me that everybody deserves to be treated equally and that everybody deserves to be loved.”

Further addressing equality and inclusivity, she added, Being part of a male-dominated sport, I haven’t always been treated equally. But they really taught me that I do deserve to be treated as an equal. My biggest piece of advice is to surround yourself with people that lift you up and make you feel comfortable, make you feel confident in yourself, and be able to embrace yourself and really who you are.

Interestingly, Bubba Wallace also lent a hand to the initiative. He was accompanied by Breidinger and Cup Series driver Noah Gragson. While the drivers have had no problems with the decision, some fans have thrown mud at it.

NASCAR’s announcement to show support to the LGBTQ+ community faced flak from many, and on a broader scale, it has created a rift in the fandom. Applauding the decision, a section of fans welcomed it with open arms.

A fan wrote on Instagram, “I cannot believe we live in a world where people have an issue with representation. But it’s ironic because those people who have a issue with this are the EXACT reason we’re celebrating it lol. Happy Pride to every single member of the NASCAR Family who cannot come out because of these people.”

One of the fans talked about the improvement in the scenario over time. “i’m happy to see that this comment section is not as aggressive as in the past. maybe the fan base is starting to learn that by turning away potential viewers, the series will just continue to lose money and fall off.”

NASCAR fans also came forward on Twitter to extend the chain.

Some of the comments look to start a brawl over the issue, especially with the unwarranted hatred. One of the supporters of the decision tweeted, “all the snowflake bi**ts here SO MAD lmao i love this. imagine being sooooo pi**ed at queer people existing and celebrating their existance in the face of extermination. i couldnt be that pathetic, i grew up and became a decent human”
