NASCAR races, irrespective of the tier, are always thrilling to watch. The bewildering speeds, the contacts, and the last-lap wrecks are certain to make hearts beat faster. However, the wrecks and crashes also come as a bummer in this nerve-racking sport. The ensuing cautions and multiple restarts break the continuity of the race. That the cars get damaged and unsuspecting drivers get caught up in others’ mess is a bummer as well.

Surely, the Richard Childress Racing team must be mulling over this after yesterday’s Xfinity Race in Darlington.

Saturday’s Xfinity Race in Darlington was nothing less than a roller-coaster ride. It saw a deserving win with Kyle Larson outperforming others after starting 30th, taking the lead, and shoving John Hunter Nemechek in the last lap to take the checkered. But the race also encountered a few cautions and for Richard Childress Racing, it was a complete mess.

It was on lap 67 that the cars on track encountered a multi-car crash. It also sent the RCR drivers Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill spinning on the track. Sheldon Creed had made contact with Nemechek at Turn 3 and was sent reeling on the track. In the process, the RCR driver also involved the other cars in the wreck and forced the officials to issue another caution on the field.

In the video of the crash shared by NASCAR on Twitter, the commentators can be heard exclaiming, “There goes the #2. Simultaneous spins for teammates Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed and we have our sixth caution of the afternoon. Boy I tell ya, most of these guys are gonna drive away, but momentarily it looked like a parking lot developing in Turn 4.”

Well, amidst all these hustles, it was Kyle Larson who stole the show. The 2021 Cup Series champion, who races part-time for Kaulig Racing in Xfinity, was involved in a fierce battle for the checkered with Nemechek. In the final lap, although Larson hit the outside wall, he regained control of his car before pushing Nemechek out of the track and securing his first win in Darlington.
