On YouTube, GQ Sports has a segment where professional athletes break down scenes from movies. A 2019 video had the theme of motorsports, and F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo was invited to do the breakdown. Among the movies he analyzed was one of the classic NASCAR movies, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

The first scene depicted Ricky Bobby, played by actor Will Ferrell, acting as if he was on fire. Ricciardo noted that the racing overalls were fireproof, as they were made from Nomex. He did confess that he had never been in such a situation and did not wish to be in such a scenario. According to the Australian, even if the fire was not showing, the marshals should have sprayed him with the fire extinguisher. He quipped, “So shame on them for letting my dear Ricky Bobby burn. Whether he was or not, is besides the point.”

What else did Daniel Ricciardo say about the NASCAR movie?
Ricciardo noted that it was also the marshals’ duty to contain the driver and not let him run around in a panic. In the end, though, there was really not a lot he could say about the movie. Earlier in the video though, he did get a chance to review the cult classic Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise.
It is also worth noting that former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick also participated in a movie breakdown. However, the movies that she analyzed were more F1 or IndyCar-based, like Rush, Grand Prix, Turbo, and more. One thing is for sure, Patrick and Daniel Ricciardo had a lot of fun in their respective videos. The Australian driver is also a NASCAR fan, and he is a huge fan of the late great Dale Earnhardt. In fact, Ricciardo’s racing number is #3, which is the same as the 7-time Cup Series champion.
