Danica Sue Patrick has always expressed her love for sports, be it motorsports, the NFL, or even Formula 1. She was seen publicly supporting the New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, many times when they were dating. Although Danica Patrick has been long associated with being a Chicago Bears fan, she has always been bold about her preferences.

On the other hand, Patrick and F1 go back a long time; she has driven an F1 car before and was inches away from landing a test drive with Honda in 2008, but unfortunately, the project collapsed and that never happened. Nevertheless, she still hones her love for F1 as a commentator for Sky Sports.

However, besides being a wine connoisseur and the host of “Pretty Intense,” Patrick is known for the critiques that she makes about the F1 speedsters from time to time. Some of them are readily accepted, while others are not so much. Recently, she made a bold statement, belittling a William Racing driver.

Danica Patrick lets out an 8-word claim

The American F1 fans got a new home favorite to cheer for when Logan Sargeant became F1’s first American driver in almost 8 years. Despite being eluded by championship glory since he switched to single-seater racing, Sargeant has proven his driving prowess through his numerous pole positions and victories in various categories, including karting.

The 22-year-old has made his way to Williams Racing in F1 after having secured an array of victories and another top-3 position in 2022 in F2. Besides that, his career flaunts a runner-up finish in F4 UAE, a P3 finish in the British F4, and another third-place finish in F3. Logan Sargeant has also made it to the prestigious podium of the Macau GP.

Yet to establish his dominance in the arena of F1, Sargeant’s journey throughout 2023 has not been a bed of roses. Nevertheless, he became the first American driver to score an F1 point since Michael Andretti in 1993. And now, he is all set to explore the newest heights of success that he can possibly attain as he prepares to rev his engine on the 6.2-kilometer, F1 17-turn street circuit that will host the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Danica Patrick, who is the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel car racing, feels like Sargeant is not quite well known in the US. On that note, she said, “He’s not super famous in the United States; he didn’t really come up through the ranks. We don’t really know him that well in the US.” Still, she admitted that the feat he has achieved after three decades since Michael Andretti is quite impressive. “It’s been a long, long time since Michael Andretti, I believe, so that’s fantastic. I mean, it’s great that an American has had a point.”

Would the F1 fans agree with what Patrick said? But it’s safe to say that Danica Patrick has been the egg of the fan’s wrath many times before. One such incident happened earlier this year when she offered her views on women advancing in the sport of Formula 1.

Danica Patrick’s controversial opinion on women driving in F1

After the collapse of the W series, an all-female, single-seater racing championship, Formula 1 kick-started the all-female F1 Academy category with the sole motive of providing a head-start to the budding female speedsters to work their way up the ladder to F1.

Just the fact that the last Grand Prix start made by a female racer (Lella Lombardi) dates back to 1976 hints at the legitimacy of the efforts made by F1 to encourage female talents to drive its cars. So, when ex-IndyCar racer and NASCAR sensation Danica Patrick called out the female mind, saying that F1 races are not normal for it, it’s perhaps not a shock that she’d face vehement criticism. But what exactly did she say?

During an F1 Juniors podcast across the Hungarian GP weekend, a young girl asked Patrick if she would want more female racers to take part in the sport. Patrick said, “You have to handle the car – not only just the car because that’s a skill, but the mindset that it takes to be really good is something that’s not normal in a feminine mind, a female mind,” she explained. In the ring of competitive motorsport, rubbing is indeed racing. So if someone decides to go hard on their fellow driver, it’s only normal for the latter to retaliate. And that, according to Patrick, is not normal.

“If somebody tries to bow up to make it difficult on me, I would go into like an aggressive kill mode,” she said. “You just want to go after them, and that’s just not a natural feminine thought.”

The criticisms against these views of Danica Patrick have been so harsh that some of the fans have even urged Sky Sports to remove her from the commentator’s booth. What do you think of Patrick’s comments?
