Jenson Button, the former Formula One World Champion, is set to make his NASCAR debut this month. However, it seems that his three-race deal with Rick Ware Racing has nothing to do with his ongoing participation in the Garage 56 project. The latest in a series of news about his NASCAR debut is related to the paint scheme he is going with. He has chosen a “nostalgic” paint scheme for his #15 Mobil 1 Ford Mustang. But what’s the reason behind his choice of design?

In an interview with NASCAR Race Hub, Button revealed that the inspiration for his paint scheme came from none other than Tony Stewart. Upon being acknowledged for the “Nostalgic look there” for his debut car, he said, “It’s definitely what like Tony used to run in the late 90s, right?”

Button’s decision to try his hand at NASCAR comes from his love for the sport, which also started in the 90s, when he first watched the racing classic, Days of Thunder.

One driver who can relate to racing in different motorsports disciplines is Stewart himself. He was reported by Forbes as saying, “Jenson has been doing that his entire career. Those F1 cars evolve every year, and Jenson always found a way to adapt. And when he got out of F1, he jumped into sports cars and won another championship. He’s even done off-road. There’s very little that he hasn’t experienced in a racecar. He’s new to NASCAR, but he’s not new to racing.”

After concluding his 17-year career in F1 in 2016, Jenson Button moved to broadcasting and continued to participate in occasional races across different series. He competed in sports cars in the GT500 class of the Japanese Super GT Series, where he went on to win the 2018 championship. Button also took part in five races in the FIA World Endurance Championship, which included the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as participated in the Baja 1000 in 2019.
