NASCAR has truly come a long way in terms of its global popularity. Over time, the sport has attracted some top motorsport personalities, and it’s only getting better. Just recently, Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen announced their participation in the Circuit of The Americas later this month. Auto Club 400 winner Kyle Busch had his say on this recently.
Along with Button and Raikkonen, Jordan Taylor and Jonathan Davenport will also take part in NASCAR this season. With new racers coming in this season, there is something that Busch was not happy about.

Ahead of the race at the Phoenix Raceway, Kyle Busch attended the pre-race press conference. When asked about the competition both Raikkonen and Button bring at COTA, he said, “Yeah, I mean I would say that there’s opportunity for them to be competitive. I think it all kind of depends on how much work and behind-the-scenes stuff that they do.”
Raikkonen made his NASCAR debut last year, taking part in the Watkins Glen International. Unfortunately, the 2007 Formula One World Champion DNF’d after getting involved in a clash. For the 43-year-old, Busch said, “Raikkonen last year I thought was respectable. He really didn’t get to show a full race, so we didn’t get a good sense of that. But being with Trackhouse, I would like to think that he’s probably got the best opportunity let’s say.”
On the other hand, he sent a clear warning to new entry Jonathan Davenport. Superman is all set to make his NASCAR debut with Kaulig Racing at the Bristol Motor Speedway this year. He said, “Me jumping in a dirt late model and going to compete against Jonathan Davenport–I failed successfully at that at Bristol last year when I ran the dirt late model, or two years ago.
“So him coming over and thinking he’s going to jump in and go win a Cup race right out of the gate, I think you have another thing coming.” Busch surely had some strong words there. The Richard Childress Racing driver even explained how it won’t be easy for Button and Raikkonen.

Rowdy cautions Button and Raikkonen of the competition in NASCAR
There is no question about either Button’s or Raikkonen’s skills behind the wheel. In fact, the former recently acknowledged how racing in NASCAR is a different challenge from what he is used to.
Busch spoke on similar lines at the conference. He said, “These cars are so different than anything that these guys are used to driving. They’re different than anything I’ve ever been used to driving, so we’re all still trying to feel that out and figure that out. I mean last year, we had 19 different winners and this year, we’re already at three.

“So it can go the same way again this year. It’s whenever you get the luck of the draw on a pit stop, get out front or whatever it might be.” The two-time Cup Series champion certainly has a point here.
