With the 2021 season coming to a close and the 2022 season on the horizon, NASCAR teams are already making the moves. JTG Daugherty Racing has recently signed Tab Boyd from Hendrick Motorsports as the spotter for Ricky Stenhouse Jr in the next season of Cup Series.

Boyd, who was the spotter for William Byron since 2017, will leave the Hendrick team for JTG. He posted a tweet in which he expressed his excitement about the new challenge with ‘an awesome group of people.’

Although this news was officially confirmed today, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had revealed his new spotter on an episode of Garage Guys podcast a few days ago. He said, “Tab Boyd is coming over to spot for us, so I think that’s gonna be huge.”

“He’s got a lot of experience of race wins, and championships and things like that, so I think that’ll be a good asset to our program as well.”

Boyd brings winning pedigree from Hendrick Motorsports to his new team

JTG Daugherty Racing hasn’t qualified for the playoffs since 2017. That was also when Ricky Stenhouse Jr won twice and made the playoffs, neither of which he hasn’t done since.

In the last two seasons, Stenhouse Jr has managed three finishes inside the top 5 and two finishes in the top 10.

On the other hand, Tab Boyd has been part of a dominant Hendrick team that has grown accustomed to winning. Besides having two Cup Series winners in his organization in the last two years, Boyd, in his role as a spotter, has helped William Byron take two wins.

In the last two seasons, Boyd has helped Byron take 12 finishes inside the top 5 and 18 finishes in the top 10.
