Xfinity Series driver Ryan Vargas took NASCAR’s notion of going global seriously last year when he made his Euro Series debut at the Motorsports Arena Oschersblen. Having run four races during his stint last year with 3F Racing, the 23-year-old driver has now decided to run a full-time schedule in the Euro Series, as he himself exclaimed, during an Exclusive with EssentiallySports.

It was indeed a surprise for a racecar driver like Vargas to choose to race overseas. Even when he has had his fair share of NASCAR racing experience, the prospect of racing in Europe is indeed inviting, but it would take more than just sheer appeal to race overseas to persuade Vargas to commit to his future racing plans.

So how did the prospect of competing in the NASCAR Euro Series come about for Vargas? And how did he manage to find an opportunity to race on a different continent? In an Exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Ryan Vargas sheds light on what propelled him to take up racing in Europe and how it all came about for him.

Ryan Vargas wanted a fresh and unique challenge

Like any ardent motorsports fan, Vargas too was intrigued and keen to know more about the NASCAR Series running in a different part of the world. He soon started taking a keen interest in following the race and also started to inquire more about the prospect of racing. Moreover, just the mere idea of being able to race cars and travel across the world was enough reason for Vargas to make the switch.

Vargas, while speaking on Essentially Sports Exclusive, shared how he was provided with an opportunity to compete in the Euro Series. “The opportunity came about really just from having to interact with some very talented individuals like Gil Linster and being able to learn what Euro Series is through them, following them online, and seeing everything. I always really wanted to travel the world and have opportunities to race overseas.”

He also shared what motivated him to take such a bold step in joining a different series, “I’ve been doing Xfinity now and Trucks for the last few years, kind of popping from ride to ride, getting valuable seat time. I knew I needed to change something up. I knew I needed something different, and fortunately, my amazing partners at Critical Path Security, they had the same ambitions in mind of doing things different, changing things up.”

The four-race feature with 3F Racing last year in the Euro Series was just the next move for Vargas in his search for a better racing experience. However, the four races did really put the driver on the map, and the media coverage they received was off the roof. While it was a big win for Vargas and the 3F team, his sponsors, Critical Path, were over the moon with the exposure and recognition they gained by supporting Vargas.

I brought the idea to them of going overseas and racing in Europe last season, they loved the idea, they wanted to do it, and when we went over there and showed how competitive we could be, we also got a bunch of publicity out of it. We were really able to hone in the marketing campaign and be able to push their branding in totally a new and unique way,” said Vargas in his EssentiallySports Exclusive.

With the new season on the horizon, Vargas, who is committed to a full schedule in the NASCAR Euro Series, is focused on being a better driver. While the dynamics of racing in Europe are different, he is banking on his resolve and hard work to deliver the results for his team.
