When asked if he feels drivers no longer have respect for each other, Williams answered, “Well I mean, there’s a lot of the, I mean, you gotta look at the change of drivers, right? I mean, a lot of old school guys are either moving on or retiring or they’re, you know, they’re gone.”

He continued, “So then you got these younger guys coming in that you know they haven’t had to race that way you know… I mean, I understand it you mean and that’s how I was talking about the race, you know, when I started you know, just kind of give the guys that have been there for a while some respect, and then you can earn yours.”

Williams highlights the struggle young talents face when breaking into the sport

During the same interview, he said, “I mean, it’s not the way it used to be… Because there’s a lot of people that have a lot of talent that you know, don’t get the good opportunities because, you know, they get out you know on who writes the checks…”

Williams had mentioned that there were some drivers who had recently made it in the sport due to their talent. However, they also had strong financial partners supporting them. He acknowledged that it was a challenging sport to be part of. Therefore, the difficulty extended even to the lower levels of competition.
