It’s no secret that Rick Hendrick is one of the wealthiest people in the motorsports industry today. Fans, however, are always intrigued to learn about the lifestyle of such an eminent personality. NASCAR insider and aviation fanatic Brian Harmon recently revealed the extravagant side of the legendary team owner in an exclusive with EssentiallySports.

One in Rick Hendrick’s position must be quite busy with engagements and meetings for several hours every single day. Therefore, time is of the essence, and what is the quickest way of transportation? Aviation. As it happens, the 74-year-old has taken flying to a whole different level, just to save a few minutes.

As a team owner, Rick Hendrick often has to visit tracks, and sometimes his modes of transportation are wild. Aviation aficionado Brian Harmon revealed the one time when Rick Hendrick rode a private jet and a helicopter, all in the space of a few minutes, at Talladega.

According to Brian Harmon, there were a couple of occasions when Hendrick got off his private jet and into a helicopter to get to the track and back. Considering that it only took about 15 minutes by road, it indeed sounds like a sight to behold. “I remember many years back that Rick Hendrick would fly into the Anniston airport instead of Talladega, and then he would take a helicopter from Anniston to Talladega. It’s probably 15 minutes by car and maybe less than 5 by helicopter,” Harmon said in the exclusive with EssentiallySports.

“On one occasion, I saw him land in his Gulfstream, helicopter to the race track, helicopter back to the airport a short time later, depart in his jet, arrive a few hours later back in his jet, and was told that he ended up taking some friends down to Key West for lunch. My mind was blown by this,” he further added.

Rick Hendrick is perhaps the most successful team owner in the history of NASCAR, and he has worked and earned everything he has today. However, as far as Brain Harmon is concerned, the legendary team owner does not have the best private jet. That honor went to 23XI Racing co-owner and NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Everyone has heard Michael Jordan’s name. Given his star power, he is perhaps one of the biggest individuals working with NASCAR at the moment. Brian Harmon was asked which athlete had an exceptional jet, and his answer was Michael Jordan. It is a Gulfstream G-IV aircraft, adorned with the Air Jordan decals of Nike. The 88-foot aircraft was originally set to be powder blue and white in honor of Jordan’s former college in North Carolina but underwent a cosmetic upgrade in 2017.

“Michael Jordan’s jet stands out as being impressive and unique. Not just because of the sheer size of it but the paint scheme is one of the most unique I’ve seen especially on the NASCAR circuit,” Harmon added.
