It was just last week that Faction46 was introduced as a new NASCAR Truck Series team. While the team confirmed its full-time presence in 2024, co-owner Lane Moore and son Logan still have a lot to figure out. Their technical alliance with Niece Motorsports remains a key factor in the team’s aspiration to do well on the track.
Another stunning addition to the team was driver Thad Moffitt, who is Richard Petty’s grandson and will be driving the #46 Chevrolet Silverado as he is set for his first full-time season in NASCAR. In a short period, a lot seems to have happened. EssentiallySports exclusively got owner Lane Moore to detail how the journey has been for the new Truck Series team.

With Lane Moore himself well-versed in the racing arena, the dynamics of the sport have been well-known to him. However, it is one thing to drive for someone and the other to have someone drive for you. Without a doubt, selecting the driver for his Faction46 team would have been a tricky decision for Moore.
While speaking exclusively to EssentiallySports, Moore answered the unexpected challenges he faced in starting a Truck Series team. He said, “One of the challenges I didn’t even think about was choosing a driver. I’ve raced before. I’ve supported other racers before. So I knew a little about how sponsorships and the financial stuff work. But when it’s your team, you start to think a little deeper about it.”
Thad Moffitt, grandson of Richard Petty, will run a full truck season for a new team, Faction46 in 2024. Team is owned by Venture Food Stores owner Lane Moore. They will have alliance with Niece. Doug George will crew chief. Will be No. 46 Chevrolet.

Despite a lot of uncertainty, Moore has shown a lot of faith in Thad Moffitt. He counts on giving him as much support as he can to make it count. He said, “I’m going to be putting a lot of trust in this guy [Moffitt], we’re going to be working together every day in really stressful situations. What I was really looking for is someone who shares my values, and puts family first, so we know the partnership can really work when it gets tough.” Moore sure has his ideas clear, and more so while approaching sponsors for his team.

In the world of NASCAR, attracting sponsors has always been a tricky affair. Kyle Busch struggled to do so while at Joe Gibbs Racing and eventually ended up at Richard Childress Racing because of it. However, Faction46 owner Lane Moore understands it and knows what will get the sponsors going.
Speaking about the sponsors, Moore said, “We love all the support we get from partners like Customers Bank, Safety-Kleen, Pristine Auction. If you know NASCAR fans and their loyalty to brands that support the sport, then sure it’s attractive to their bottom line. I’m a business owner myself, I get it, that’s what makes sense to a lot of people.”

However, he also knows what he would want from his sponsors. Moore added, “But also as a business owner, I know it has to be more than that [making sense]. You’ve got to love racing. You’ve got to love getting behind this driver and supporting him on his journey. That’s why we’ve come out of the gate with such incredible partners.” With Moore looking pleased with his sponsors, he also expressed his delight in having the technical alliance with Niece Motorsports.
Lane Moore feels partnering up with Niece Motorsports will prove to be beneficial
With Faction46 set to enter the Truck Series arena, they have opted to rely on Niece Motorsports for their technical expertise. It is a move that has surprised many, but Lane Moore feels it will help the team immensely. Speaking to EssentiallySports exclusively, he said, “Look being a team owner is about more than having great seats for the race.”
“We want to win. And if you want a winning Chevy in the truck series, that’s Niece [Motorsports] all the way. They’ve been instrumental in getting us ready, working side by side with us at every step. And I think what we bring is an opportunity to just be good ambassadors for their program and learn from them”, Lane Moore further continued.
The Faction46 highlighted how Niece Motorsports started in 2016 and has found its foot in the Truck Series. He said, “They didn’t start their program that long ago, they have a lot of understanding about what we’re experiencing and what we’re about to experience as a brand-new team.” While he has it sorted out with Niece Motorsports, Moore goes on to mention how local support will be vital to the team’s success.
Faction46 owner is thankful for Oklahoma’s support
Oklahoma has a lot of influence over Lane Moore. Having raised his family and built his business there, the place holds a valuable place in his heart. With Oklahoma being the 46th state, it is understandable where the name Faction46 is derived from.
Speaking about his love for the state, Moore said, “There would be no Faction46 without everything Oklahoma has given us. So we want to represent that in NASCAR and give them a team and a driver that can give back to them. When it comes to the online community that’s also in the DNA of Faction46.”
Furthermore, Moore even explained why he took the initiative to announce the team on Eric Estepp’s YouTube channel. He said, “I wanted to introduce myself to the fans on social media first. These guys on YouTube and social media are how I get my racing news, and I think it’s how a lot of people get their racing news now.” While Moore was clear with his approach to the announcement, he also seems to have a vision for Faction46’s future.

Moore said, “I think our long-term vision is basically the same as our short-term goals. We want to build a new legacy of speed with Thad. We want to give new media and creators a seat at the table so fans anywhere can see what we see. And we really are out here doing something special to represent Oklahoma. These are our core values and they’ll always be what we want to represent in motorsports.”
While that’s inspiring, it would be interesting to see if Faction46 brings in more cars to the team in the future. Luckily, Moore had his say on the matter as well. He said, “We don’t have any announcements right now but fans should follow us on social media @TeamFaction46 so anything we announce they’ll hear it first.”
