The playoffs opener on the “Lady in the Black” was a unique spectacle to watch for. With 16 drivers vying for one common goal, all the drivers were head-on against one another without budging an inch. Amidst the intense pressure of the playoffs, all of the drivers hoped to avert any major on-track issues. However, as luck could have it, a lapse of judgments and growing contentions eventually led to mayhem.

In this ensuing chaos, it was Kevin Harvick who faced the worst brunt after being caught in an erroneous execution of judgment. Moreover, it was Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson who was able to capitalize on the situation and take the chequered, guaranteeing his position in the Group of 12. Nevertheless, Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers seemed to justify the actions in his latest Twitter post.

The 2014 Cup Series champion, Kevin Harvick in the ongoing season, has delivered spectacular results, with numerous top 10 and top 5 finishes. Moreover, in his twilight season of professional racing, the driver was able to enter the post-season for the 17th time on the basis of points, but the dark horse has been unable to notch a victory to provide the perfect conclusion to his Cup Series career.

The driver had wangled several opportunities to secure a victory. However, unforeseen incidents had thrown a wrench on the strategy of the race, and the race on Saturday was no exception. There is no denying the fact that the No.4 Ford car was one of the fastest cars on the grid, and Harvick was able to out-duel the other fellow drivers to take the lead in the race.

However, Tyler Reddick’s abrupt change of decision sent the track into a whirlwind, as Reddick made contact with Ryan Newman. While the wreck occurred, it was Kevin Harvick who tried to pit under the green and was caught in a blindsight, when the pit lane was closed as caution was issued on the track. Owing to this, Harvick was slapped with a penalty and was compelled to start from the rear of the track, losing his on-track position, and that undid his day.

The incident sent the NASCAR world into a furor, as they tried to derive a proper justification for the move made by the driver. On account of this, Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers took the matters to his hand and threw light into the incident. When asked by a fan, “Wouldn’t the penalty had been avoided if y’all just drove through and didn’t make the pit stop?”

He explained, “Correct, but in those 15 seconds we didn’t know if we made the light or not. So the safe bet was to pit, so if you made the light you would be the leader. Driving thru, and then finding out we made the light would be even more of a disaster.”

The probability of being slapped with a penalty for driving through the pit lane hinged on equal balances. Nevertheless, it was unfortunate that the driver was met with such an incident.

In the post-race interview, Harvick stated, The caution came out and the light was on, and I didn’t think I could turn right.” While his crew chief, Childers expressed after losing sight of another victory, You need to be winning races.”

“I mean, I’m to the point now I just want to win races. I couldn’t give two s—s of what happens with all this other crap. I’ve been in the final four, I don’t know how many times, and it ends up being a crapshoot half the time. Right now, I want (Harvick) to go to victory lane and I want to win races with him. We came here with a good car, we were strong all weekend, and just unfortunate.”
