Kyle Busch broke the age standard of NASCAR. He began his career under Roush Racing at the age of 16 in the Craftsman Truck Series and became a young prodigy. However, the two-time Cup Series champion seems to have a match on the blocks – and it is his son. Brexton Busch is breaking down age barriers fiercely, en route to becoming the next icon in motorsports – and his dad could not be more proud.

Busch admitted his nerves while watching Brexton succeed, saying, “I think this is more stress and more butterflies for me here than it is for the Daytona 500.” The 9-year-old speedster brought home a prestigious Golden Driller trophy at the 40th Tulsa Shootout. Among a massive crowd of 1,798 racers, Brexton managed to clinch one of the coveted 6 trophies. This path-breaking victory left his father emotional, and just being a happy dad.

Over two decades, Kyle Busch has accumulated several accolades. He has clinched 63 Cup Series race victories, 102 Xfinity wins, and 66 Craftsman Truck wins. The 231 trophies in his arsenal comprise a legacy that nobody can match. However, Busch’s son is already becoming worthy of being the torchbearer of this massive history. Brexton dazzled in his very first race in the Beginner Box Stock division at merely 6 years old. Now at 9 years of age, he already holds credit for 32 race wins at 13 different tracks. The Tulsa Shootout victory was the latest and most prestigious victory for Brexton to date – and his dad was speechless.

The legendary NASCAR racer shed tears of joy with his wife, Samantha Busch, in Tulsa, Oklahoma recently. They were both so dedicated to Brexton’s success that they decided to spend their anniversary at the SageNet Center. Kyle Busch tried to stuff his emotion into words as he penned a heartfelt post on X. “24 hours later, and I still couldn’t be more proud of @brextonbusch. Biggest moment of his career and he drove a perfect race. All the hard work he and the guys put in all year paid off. Just a really proud dad right now.”

Is Brexton Busch the next big thing in NASCAR, or just riding on his dad's coattails?

Have an interesting take?

Indeed, Brexton showcased a stellar performance. He already displayed glimmers of his winning spark, as he clawed his way from 6th place to win FuelTech Race 135. During the final Junior Sprint A-Main event, he led the race from the pole. Leading for 20 laps, Kyle Busch’s son smoothly grabbed his Golden Driller trophy – while Kyle Larson’s son Owen finished 6th. Brexton’s ecstasy was marked as he achieved what he set out to do after failing to win the same race in 2023. Brexton posted on Instagram with the caption: “Dreams do come true.😌” and NASCAR veteran Mark Martin hailed him for his success.

Notably, Brexton has more experience on dirt tracks than Kyle Busch, and Busch gave him credit for the advice he received from Brexton.

A two-way growth process

Well, as a NASCAR hotshot, Kyle Busch would be the ideal dad and racing teacher. He has some big plans for Brexton Busch. With his son currently in junior sprints, micros, and bandoleros, Kyle intends to push Brexton into Legend cars and CARS Tour Pro Late Models soon. However, while honing his child’s skills, the legend is also gaining key insights from his little speedster. Now sporting multiple titles like the Millbridge Speedway track championship and the prestigious Golden Driller trophy, Brexton has attained racing maturity beyond his years. And yes, this dynamic has led him to mentor his 2-time Cup champion father as well.

Kyle Busch recollected a race where Brexton’s suggestion proved right. “There was a race at the airport this year where you got to run the bottom, and of course, I went to the top to make something happen because everyone was stuck at the bottom. He comes in afterward and says, ‘I told you you had to stay at the bottom.’ It’s fun. We prep a lot.” Brexton is paving a fast track to a successful career in NASCAR.

His dad outlined a projected date for his Craftsman Truck Series entry. “I want to keep him on the dirt and asphalt realm… He gets in his Bandolero car and he knows what he’s got to do on pavement; he gets into his dirt car and he knows what he’s got to do on dirt… We’ll probably stick with some of that mixture. And then by 16, he’ll be ready for some Trucks.” Busch has also outlined an ‘ideal’ plan to race with his son in the future.

In a perfect world, I would retire from Cup racing when Brexton is 15 years old… I would go run a year of truck… to see if i can win a Truck Series Championship… When Brexton turns 16, him and I can split that truck where he can run the shorter track races and I can run the bigger track races,” Busch said to SiriusXM in 2023. Kyle Busch would be 45 when Brexton turns 15, and he looks to push along even further than that. In an ideal world, we get to see the Rowdy for at least 6 more years and we are not complaining!
