Hendrick Motorsports have in the past shown its ability to spot great talents early and bring them on board. They did it with drivers such as Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson. By the looks of it, they might have one more brilliant driver on their payroll.
William Byron is a young driver; he turned 25 in November 2022. One of the youngest drivers on the track, his age shouldn’t cloud the judgment of any person evaluating him. In his short career as a full-time professional racer, Byron has achieved several remarkable accolades.

Hendrick Motorsports have a driver who can race and take a joke
In 2015, driving for HScott Motorsports, he won the K&N Pro Series East. He followed that up with a Rookie of the Season award in 2016 in the Truck Series, coupled with a respectable 5th-place finish. Byron then managed to one-up that achievement, as he won the Xfinity Series in 2017 for JR Motorsports.
All those performances were enough evidence for Rick Hendrick & Co. to hand him the keys to the #24 Chevy at Hendrick Motorsports. His performances in the Cup Series have been reasonably good too, and he has managed to improve every year.
His cherubic face and jovial nature however are sometimes taken for granted by some. @nascarcasm, the ‘troll’ account of NASCAR on Twitter, is known for taking on HMS drivers. Recently, Byron too found himself on their list.
I guess all those baby jokes @nascarcasm made about me were worth it. Thanks for the candy box with my favorites. 🎁 pic.twitter.com/0OEOVxwBsR

Byron posted a picture with a box of candies and wrote “I guess all those baby jokes @nascarcasm made about me were worth it. Thanks for the candy box with my favorites. 🎁” This is undoubtedly a hilarious and humble response from Byron, and that’s how his trollers saw it.
My pleasure, William. You're a tremendous sport. Please eat that all in one sitting. https://t.co/6OIhM5IS7s

He was applauded for being a great sport by the troll account: “My pleasure, William. You’re a tremendous sport. Please eat that all in one sitting.” They also commented on his post, “You’ve earned every dental cavity you’re about to develop but that’s your dentist’s problem and not mine. Thank you for being a tremendous sport, William.”
It was indeed a nice banter between the driver and the NASCAR account. It is always good to see this kind of light-hearted fun.

Byron took the reins of the #24 Chevy in the Cup Series in 2018, and in the 5 seasons since that debut, he has been tactfully learning the ropes of racing in the highest-quality league of stock model racing.
The 2022 season for him was the best as he managed a 6th-place finish—the second-highest among HMS drivers. While a place in the final 4 might have been a bonus, to finish above Kyle Larson—the 2021 title winner—was an achievement in itself.

The 25-year-old’s best performance came in the spring at Martinsville. Ironically, that same track also led to him missing out on a place in the final 4. Managing only a 7th-place finish in the second half of the season in Martinsville, he missed out on his first Championship 4 appearance.
At the end of it all, Byron was happy with his performance. He told NASCAR, “Just have to put all the pieces together next year. But happy with where we are. Sixth in points this year and still continuing to climb forward.
“I’m young, but I’m experienced in what I’ve done in racing, and I think all that experience is starting to come to fruition. … I feel good about the direction we’re headed, and to be that close to the final four this year, was a big step.”

Byron is still writing his tale, but the signs suggest he has some great years coming in the future. He only needs to build on his performances from 2022, and a shot at the title will not be too far.
