Trouble has come looking for the Daytona 500 victor William Byron early at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The Hendrick Motorsports driver who started off at the short track bonanza on the repaved surface had tough luck when he got into the wall in lap 20.

Byron broke his toe link after he kissed the wall in the early lap of the race when the #20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Christopher Bell pushed the #22 Team Penske Ford of Joey Logano into the HMS Chevy. Consequently, Byron hit the wall in the worst position, snapping his toe link on the spot, and became the first car to head to the pit lane.

The incident happened when Byron was riding 15th and this early scuffle brought out the first caution of the race while the Hendrick Motorsports crew scrambled to get the part replaced for the driver to continue his race. Obviously disappointed, Byron was heard on the radio, saying, “The toe link is broke,” as he vented out his frustration to his crew chief.

This is a developing story.
