Dale Earnhardt was famous for driving the number 3 car for Richard Childress Racing, and he was nicknamed the “Intimidator.” Despite his successful career with seven championships, he faced struggles and tough times in the beginning.

Dale Jr. wants to share his dad’s real-life struggles and past mistakes before he got the opportunity to drive for RCR and became the Intimidator. In a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dale Jr. gave insights about the series.

Dale said, “We’re going to learn through dad’s own comments and quotes about from other people involved in the story about the raw, mistake-prone, rough around the edges, paranoid, frantic, rookie, driving like his a** is on fire. You know and like every single lap he’s saying you know driving for his career and that was one of the most incredible things about dad is the way he drove every lap of 1979 season, he drove for the same way for the rest of his career. and I can never understand how he was able to maintain that level of intensity.”

Junior emphasized his father’s mistakes and added, “Made a lot of mistakes but it’s just this really interesting we get to go back and see him in a totally vulnerable state where he’s not seven-time champion with the World by the tail he s really trying to claw his way into an existence right, to become you know a winner and a champion in NASCAR and so it’s a lot of fun.”

Dad’s first full year, she decides ‘I’m going to start a scrapbook Dale, and when I see an article of yours in the local paper I’m going to cut it out and put it in here’. Articles that he wrote, I’ll read them to you man, and I’m hearing him talk. It’s in his cadence, the choice of words, I can hear him saying all of those things, right?”

Dale continued, “I know that he had Joe Whitlock and a couple of friends that were journalists that would help him, that probably even told him, ‘Hey man, this is a good idea, let’s do this. Let’s do this bi-monthly article, you’re a rookie, let’s get your name out there. Let’s let the fans understand who you are. So, for the next couple of weeks, we’re going to be dropping an episode.”
