It would have been cool to see Suarez, McDowell, or Allmendinger get a win to completely flip the playoff grid upside down. Although the action-packed Atlanta race still did some damage to the playoff list, there are still numerous opportunities for drivers to make a leap from the lower cutoff positions. There’s a possibility for them to snatch the coveted 15th and 16th spots, just as Suarez and McDowell did. While Chase Elliott is still looking forward to pacing up the season.

However, Hendrick Motorsports drivers William Byron and Kyle Larson sealed their places with three and two wins, respectively. But Chase Elliott is still struggling to get into those 16s. Moreover, Alex Bowman was on that list before, but he somehow pushed down below the cutline to 22nd place.

The conversations are all around about Chase Elliott’s chances for the playoffs, and he also proved his potency by giving back-to-back top 5s and excellent performances after his comeback from injury and suspension. But is it enough?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shares Hidden Booth Talk on Chase Elliott and his playoff chances

In one of the recent Dale Jr. Download episodes, Dale and Mike talked about the possibilities for Chase to make his move into the playoffs. However, Chase Elliott lost five points in Atlanta, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. believes he can do with points without a win. Junior brine Chase Elliott needs nine points in every race, and he said, “Still doable, still doable.”

The Hall of Famer referred to the last bad week in Atlanta and expressed, “I don’t think he can have another flat week like he did this past weekend in Atlanta.”

Junior further shared about the discussions he had with Steve Letarte and Jeff Burton during the commentary booth. He said, “I’m a believer that Chase points his way in, I always felt that way. There’s very very big competition in the booth between me, Letarte and Burton about whether Chase points his way in. They don’t think he can, they think he has to win, I believe he can do it on points and I believe I will. This weekend hurt chances a little bit but I still believe Chase gets right up in there.”

The current season has been a roller coaster ride for HMS and Chase Elliott. Injury, suspension, and a lack of speed made it harder for the driver to maintain momentum. More so, the notable performances of Chris Buescher, Daniel Suarez, and Michael McDowell added an extra layer of difficulty for Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports in all.

Todd Gordon believes Chase Elliott still has a chance to make his place into the playoff. He called on the HMS program on the MRN Crew Call podcast, “I feel like that program is I think they are still very good either just not exceptional. We’ve got a great opportunity coming up for Chase Elliott and I couldn’t write him off.”

Todd’s co-host Steve Post supported his point and said, “He got seven great opportunities he’s that good. That team is that good. And we could be certain here two wins going into playoff and so and boy we were worried about nothing when we talked about back here in the middle part of July.”
