Without a doubt, Dale Earnhardt is one of the most iconic and legendary names in the NASCAR arena. However, every legend had to start somewhere, and Dale Sr started his career during the era of another legend.

Speaking to Dale Earnhardt Jr, he said, “I think the first remembrance that really sticks, I don’t even know. The first time I heard tell of Dale Earnhardt, was in Martinsville. I started the other six or ten or something. Your dad was behind us and we go down the first corner. They throw the green flag, we go down in the first corner. “Who is it? Dale Earnhardt. So I went over and said, ‘Don’t let that happen again’. I gave him a warning finger.”

Dale Jr. admitted that he shared a clip of the wreck on social media. As it happened, the then-rookie Dale Sr. went three wide and got on the grass. As a result, he ended up wrecking and knocking out 10 cars.

Petty also revealed that he issued another veiled threat to Earnhardt. He said that he didn’t mind him beating his drivers, but to not ‘beat on’ his own race car. This was after he punted Bobby Hamilton into a spin at the Rockingham Speedway.
Petty also observed that the main difference between Dale Earnhardt and their father Ralph Earnhardt was the aggression.
