“I don’t know that there’s ever a right time.” Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch’s words best describe his son’s career right now. In NASCAR, most drivers were introduced to the craft early, go-karting as early as 5-6 years old. Brexton Busch also started his journey at 5, racing in the Beginner Box Stock division in 2020. But what he has achieved in the past five years has been extraordinary. Although it led to a lowered priority in academics, his dad does not seem to mind.
After all, pursuing a full-time career in racing can be time-consuming. And Brexton Busch has used that time well, piling up achievements every year. The mini Rowdy won 9 races in 2021, 32 races in 2022, and over 30 races in 2023. In 2024, he stunned people with 48 race trophies, so Kyle Busch is proud of him, no matter what.

Kyle Busch relaxes the rules
On 26th March, 2025, it was the battle of the Buschs. Kyle Busch entered a 20-lap feature in the 600cc Winged Micros class at Millbridge Speedway, and his 9-year-old son Brexton was right there to challenge him. The little racer hounded his father’s back all day long, sometimes coming close to toppling his spot. Although Brexton could finish 6th and his dad ended in 3rd, Papa Busch proudly proclaimed, “He did a great job.” This was a commendation not only from his father but from a veteran motorsports athlete who holds 232 NASCAR national series race wins and two Cup Series championships. So, Brexton clearly has his priorities straight, even before stepping into the double-digit age threshold.
In a recent interview with Beadle and Decker and Sirius XM NASCAR, Kyle Busch divulged something special about his son. Brexton’s grandfather (Tom), uncle (Kurt), and father (Kyle) have all paved their paths in racing. So the youngster is embarking on the same journey, even if that means scaling down his academics. And his parents are okay with that, for the most part. Busch outlined his and Samantha’s demands from Brexton: “Kids go to school, right? My kid goes racing and does school on the side… But no, mom [Samantha Busch] is very focused on the school piece, which I am too. She makes sure that, ‘Hey, look, you don’t have to have straight As but at least have passing grades, and let’s get through the school thing ’cause you have to have the school thing.'”

Of course, Brexton Busch compensates magnificently for a lock of straight A’s at the racetrack. In 2024, he competed in over 150 races, aside from clinching 48 trophies. So Kyle Busch outlined that this extraordinary pace in the racing world is not going to fade anytime soon. “He is only 9 years old, but he races in four different things. He races Bandoleros, Micros, which are like a mini sprint car, then later this year he’s going to add on Legends cars ’cause you run those when you’re ten. So yeah, I think he ran a 130-something races last year. And we’re looking at running a 100 or so this year.” And to start 2025, Brexton clinched his first-ever Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shootout, stamping his authority as the next big thing in racing.

Setting big goals early
Well, Kyle Busch did the same thing. He got his NASCAR start at just 16 in the Camping World Truck Series as a replacement driver for Nathan Haseleu in the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford. Busch debuted in 2001 at Lucas Oil Raceway, where he finished ninth. Nobody could guess then that the young driver would go on to clinch 67 victories in Trucks and 102 trophies in Xfinity, both records that have been untouched till now. Busch’s 63 Cup Series victories and twin championships also place him as a first-ballot NASCAR Hall of Famer. Now, it seems that his son is also on a similarly legendary path, and Busch is pushing him.
Kyle Busch also plans to enroll his son in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series by he is 16. After Brexton Busch performed remarkably at Millbridge Speedway, his father spilled another plan for breaking into the Cup Series. Busch said on March 27th, “As Brexton moves up, he wants to race in NASCAR, so that’s sort of the game. He wants to get into legends cars, late models, and all the way up to the Cup Series, so we’ll see how he ends up. He’s obviously talented enough at it and does a good job where he could certainly get to that point, so it would be exciting to see him reach his goals and get all the way to the top.”
