While we just got done with a controversial race at North Wilkesboro, with the aftershock still looming over our heads, a new alarming conspiracy has suddenly sprung up. And while no one really pays heed to superstitions these days, when it comes to NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, fans couldn’t be more cautious! Now, the race world in particular have always seen superstitious elements surrounding it. Whether it’s not eating peanuts, avoiding eating the same food always, shaking hands, or even avoiding the number 13 car–we have seen these prevalent in the sport. Now there is a new conspiracy theory going on that suggests that Chase Elliott’s life might be in danger!

Dale Earnhardt and Ryan Newman’s names come up

When it happens once, it’s a coincidence. But when it happens twice, it’s a threat. And before you get confused about the ordeal, the life-threatening possibilities took shape when reports suggested that former President Donald Trump is planning to attend the Memorial Day Weekend race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Coca-Cola 600.

But his visit is dangerous not for his own security but according to conspiracy theorists – for Chase Elliott’s life! The buzz began with a tweet and that sent shivers down the spines of NASCAR fans everywhere. Pointing out an ominous coincidence, a fan revealed how every time Donald Trump shows up at a NASCAR race, something bad happens. The happenjings date back to 2001, the year NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt tragically lost his life during the 2001 Daytona 500, after contact with Ken Schrader. Donald Trump was reportedly in the grandstands, witnessing the gut-wrenching scene live as it unfolded.

Then fast-forward to 2020, when another hair-raising crash literally took everyone’s breath away. During the final laps of the Daytona 500 that year, Ryan Newman, leading the pack past Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney (running in second and third respectively), was trying to outrun the field. In a purely cinematic set of events, Blaney locked bumpers with the #6 of Newman, who veered to the right, hitting the outside wall and turned upside down while being hit by Corey LaJoie. As deadly as the massive last-lap crash was. Ryan Newman reportedly has no memory of the incident at all. And as fate would have it, Donald Trump was present on that occasion as well.

Co-incidence, ill-fate, whatever you call it–fans are worried sick about what to expect next.

Now it’s 2024 and Trump is yet again geared up to visit a NASCAR race. Conspiracy theories are ramping up on social media, each trying to connect the dots. But fans are worried (actually terrified) that their favorite driver’s life might be in danger.

Conspiracy theories are just like race cars. They need fuel to keep pushing and, in our case, social media is the gas station. Theories are popping left, right, and center faster than No.9 Chase Elliott’s car on tracks recently! Each fan doing their calculations and posting out to the world.

One fan took to calculate the car numbers of Dale Earnhardt Sr, and Ryan Newman and declared with confidence that Chase Elliott is next, while also adding Ryan Blaney in the mix! He said, “Dale Sr’s number: 3. 3+3=6, Ryan Newman’s number: 6, 6+3=9, Chase Elliott is next. Either Blaney or Elliott are getting sent to the shadow realm”. Notably, 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney drives the No. 12 car, which is also a multiple of 3.

On the other hand, another X user drew a different conclusion.

On the other hand, there were also some fans who seem genuinely concerned and have flat-out asked Elliott not to race.

Another fan just posted how he is not really a fan of the trend, but he still went ahead to calculate, writing, “Um I’m not a fan of this trend. 2001 3 car, 2020 6 car, 2024 9 car?”

Some fans even started speculating what would go down of the speculations turned out to be true, with one writing, “Chase Elliott rips the catch fence open.”

But conspiracies are just speculations with no proof. And there always was an air of conspiracy theories surrounding the racing world. So yes, even though Trump’s attendance has coincided with such turbulent incidents, there is no evidence of anything sinister. NASCAR is a sport built on risks, so the unexpected does happen. But having said that when Chase Elliott comes to race at the Coca-Cola 600, let’s keep our fingers crossed for a safe race.
