Pollex and Truex Jr.’s love story may have started on the high-speed tracks of NASCAR, but the details of its start remain shrouded in mystery, as the couple chose to keep the beginning of their journey under wraps.

Pollex, an accomplished boutique owner in Mooresville and a PR representative for NASCAR, was already making waves in the motorsports industry when fate brought her into Martin Truex Jr.’s orbit. Truex, a skilled and determined driver, was steadily ascending the ranks of the racing world. The exact timeline of their romance remains undisclosed, but it was in 2005 that the public caught its first glimpse of their connection.

In 2005, they were seen celebrating Truex’s second Xfinity Series title, an achievement that followed his first in 2004. By 2007, they were commemorating Truex’s first Cup Series win at Dover. The years that followed were filled with numerous shared milestones, including a memorable red-carpet appearance at the NASCAR Awards in 2015 and an elegant display at the NASCAR Awards banquet in Las Vegas in 2016.

The pinnacle of their journey arrived in 2017 when Truex clinched the Regular Season Champion title at Richmond Raceway and went on to celebrate his first Monster Energy Series NASCAR Cup Series championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Less than two weeks after their championship victory, Truex and Pollex were honored with the 2017 Myers Brothers Award, a prestigious recognition of their outstanding contributions to the sport of stock car racing.

Is Martin Truex Jr. still with his girlfriend, Sherry Pollex?

The longstanding relationship between Truex Jr. and his girlfriend, Pollex, was no secret; it was a well-documented love story, a bond that was a familiar sight in the racing world. After a remarkable 17-year journey, their unwavering support for each other was a common scene at the racetracks. However, the NASCAR world was left in shambles as the news of their separation came to light in January of last year.

The #19 Joe Gibbs driver took to Instagram to announce the end of his relationship with Pollex, expressing gratitude to fans and partners for their support. The couple decided to part ways amicably and requested privacy regarding the matter, with no intention of making further comments. Despite the relationship’s conclusion, Truex Jr. affirmed his ongoing support for his now ex-girlfriend.

In a public statement that left fans with few details but a clear message of respect for the privacy of the duo, Truex shared, “To my fans and partners, Sherry and I have made the decision to end our relationship. I will continue to support Sherry moving forward. I would ask that you respect our privacy as there will be no further comment about this matter.

A private chapter: Why did Martin Truex Jr. and Sherry break up?

Looking back at their history together, it becomes even more puzzling. Sherry had expressed her desire to start a family with Martin back in 2016. In a Times article, she revealed, “Two years ago, I felt like life was good. My life partner, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr., and I had been together for 10 years and had just started talking about starting a family. I’ve always wanted to be a mom—I knew I wanted that mother-daughter relationship.”

Even Martin Truex Jr. himself, after a victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2017, mentioned how he was thinking about Sherry while celebrating, despite her absence due to chemotherapy treatment. “It hit me in victory lane, and all of a sudden you can’t talk. Yeah, Sherry, I was thinking about her because she’s not here, and I know she really wanted to be. I know our guys love having her around when we win, and she’s a fun person to celebrate with, so I thought about that.”

Despite these heartfelt expressions of love and support for each other, the couple has chosen to keep the reasons for their breakup private. Given their extremely close bond and supportive nature throughout their relationship, speculation about the motive behind the breakup remains scarce.

Navigating life’s challenges: Martin Truex Jr.’s girlfriend’s cancer story

After just a two-year relationship, the couple drove headstrong into their shared passion for a cause close to their hearts. In 2007, Pollex founded the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation alongside her racing beau, with a primary focus on supporting children battling pediatric cancer. However, life took a heartbreaking turn when Pollex found herself intimately connected to the cause she had championed for years.

In 2014, at the age of 35, she was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer, and doctors estimated that her chance of survival was less than 30% within 5 years. “I didn’t just have cysts. I had cancerous tumors that were rapidly spreading from my pelvis into my peritoneal area. Later, my surgeon told me it looked like someone had taken a handful of sand and thrown it into my body, each granule a lethal cancerous cell,” Sherry penned in a Times article.

Facing this grim prognosis, Pollex underwent a radical hysterectomy and debulking surgery and endured 17 grueling months of chemotherapy. Her personal battle with cancer could have defined her, but instead, it transformed her into a beacon of hope for cancer patients worldwide.

In 2016, on her 37th birthday, Pollex launched SherryStrong.org, a platform designed to empower women to understand their bodies, recognize the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and explore integrative and holistic practices that can complement conventional medicine. Her courage in the face of adversity and her relentless spirit resonated with countless individuals. Pollex’s work with the foundation has raised millions of dollars for cancer-related causes, and her efforts have undoubtedly saved lives and continue to leave a profound impact.

In 2017, Pollex found herself among the 95 percent of women grappling with cancer’s stubborn recurrence. Fast forward to 2020, and Sherry revealed a successful surgery for the removal of three visible tumors. In 2022, Pollex’s health seemed to be firmly under control, but the fight seemed to be long over. “I had a less than 30% chance of surviving five years. As I continue to battle my own illness in my eighth year—I’m back in weekly chemotherapy now—it still motivates me every day.”
