Joe Gibbs Racing lost two drivers in one day, with one top driver from each series announcing their departure to join another team. But in a recent episode of Door, Bumper, Clear! Spotter Brett Griffin questioned his move, as he thinks it was a bad decision.
Griffin said, “If I’m Brandon Jones, my career path is to get to the Cup Series. It’s not to keep bounding around the fastest cars in the Xfinity series. I don’t understand what the play here is. Does he think he’s gonna replace somebody at Hendrick [Motorsports] in the next 3 years?”
He’s not wrong, Xfinity series being a junior series is made for drivers who want to progress to the cup. And someone as fast as Jones would have a shot at getting there, too. Yet. he chose not to and stay in the Xfinity. So why would he continue to race in a junior series?
Brandon Jones has a reason for moving to JR Motorsports
After Gragson’s announcement, what jones said took the attention of all the fans. But why would he choose to instead of going to the cup? Well, he has two reasons.
The Xfinity Series playoff contender defined his reason in the press release.
The first reason being, “To watch how competitive JRM has been over the years is really impressive,”, “They’re a threat to win every week, and one of the premier teams in our series. I’m so thankful to Dale (Earnhardt Jr.), Kelley and Mr. Hendrick for allowing me to be part of it.”
