With the dawn of the next-gen stock cars, having vast room to dominate your opponents on the track is quite challenging. After all, all 40 cars have somewhat similar performance. But there are factors like strategy and dirty driving that can come into play and make the races more exciting. After the Hamlin-Larson incident at Pocono, numerous opinions sprouted from everywhere, and among them, one was of Kyle Petty’s. It was one when Petty had condemned the #11 driver‘s actions against Kyle Larson. However, in a recent tweet, he contradicted himself.
As the playoffs inch closer, he launched a reality check on HMS drivers Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott on how they should race going forward if they want to break through the bubble.

The playoffs are of immense importance to the full-time drivers in NASCAR. Needless to say, the playoffs have a considerable say in their future with their respective teams and, in turn, their teams’ future with their sponsors. So, every driver out there is either trying to corkscrew their position in the playoffs or trying desperately to make it in.
In a recent tweet by NASCAR on NBC, Kyle Petty said that neither Chase Elliott nor Alex Bowman can hope to seize a win by playing clean. Petty said, “They’ve got to disrespect everybody. William Byron, Kyle Larson just can’t pull over. But when they see that 9 or that 48 coming, if it’s in a win position, they better get ready to get the horn because they’re getting moved out of the way and it’s not going to be respectful.”
The 63-year-old NBC analyst believes that it is no longer about Kyle Busch’s coveted respectful racing. Rather, it must be a do-what-you-can attitude to get that win.

“You’ve got to take care of it when you get to it. If there’s 4 or 5 laps to go… you can’t allow that guy back on the racetrack. If you can get close enough and you’re Chase Elliott or Alex Bowman and you don’t do it, shame on you,” he stated blatantly.

Just days after the Pocono race, Kyle Petty had opened his mouth about the Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin incident. He recalled the same move that the Joe Gibbs Racing driver had pulled on Ross Chastain last year at the Tricky Triangle and said, “I don’t appreciate even 50 wins, even what he’s done, I don’t appreciate that and that’s just my opinion.”
Obviously, Denny Hamlin did not waste his chance to call out Kyle Petty in the comments section of the tweet. He said, “Wait, isn’t this the guy that.. 🙄 nevermind.”
Fans sided with Denny Hamlin and in that light, someone said, “When there’s 4-5 laps to go, you gotta take care of it….unless you’re Denny Hamlin, because then I’ll throw a huge fit about you on National TV because you did exactly what I said to do and suddenly, I don’t like that anymore.” -@KylePetty”

One fan said, “I’ll respect almost anyone’s opinion…but @kylepetty I can’t stand. He said the exact opposite when DH moved Larson out of the way. But if Chase or Alex do it, is ok? Gimme a break.”
Another said, “All time bad take. SAD! That this low life Kyle Petty is having a complete about face from the Denny Hamlin/Kyle Larson incident.”
Someone vouched for the general respect of the sport and said, “I disagree with KP. I still think these guys need to respect their competitors. Now I will say these bubble guys will race hard and not give any room coming to staying on the lead lap or taking positions. But let’s not get to a point of disrespect in nascar.”
