The AdventHealth 400 race at Kansas Speedway had been put on hold due to rain showers. Predictions about rain hampering today’s event were already out and all of it has now come true. NASCAR events have often been marred by untimely rains and this has forced the events to be rescheduled. So while it is not surprising, it is just as disappointing as the first time it must have happened.
With more rain predicted later in the day, NASCAR could well have to put its contingency plans to work, which does include calling off the race if the conditions do not improve. However, the fans are certainly not looking forward to such a result and therefore have come up with a unique idea, racing under the lights at mile and half race track.
NASCAR has cut down on night races in recent years. Only seven of the 36 events are now scheduled to be run under the lights. One of the major reasons for that is TV ratings. For example, the night race at Bristol only garnered 1.5 million views last year. These night races are not a big hit for the TV ratings, and that is one of the prime reasons why the governing body has scaled down their number.

However, by no means are they extinct, as fans do enjoy a good night race, especially during the hot summer days. The return of concrete racing at Bristol Motor Speedway was a huge hit in terms of racing. Given the conditions in Kansas, perhaps a night race could turn out to be a good spectacle for the viewers. As soon as Bob Pockrass shared the dampening news about the rain alerts, fans started lobbying for the race to start under the lights.
Fans react to the rain delays for the NASCAR Cup race at Kansas
The mile-and-a-half race track is unlike any other venue. Most of the Cup races are scheduled in daylight due to the unavailability of lights. But that’s not the case at Kansas Speedway and fans were quick to point it out. A fan wrote, “Thank goodness they have lights Bob 😂”.
The Bristol night race was a crazy one for the fans to take in. And given how the racing surface changes with the weather, a night race would be a great spectacle to witness. Voting in favor of the night event, another one replied, “I’m so down for a night race”.

Highlighting how very few events allow the spectators to enjoy a night race, a user added that a Kansas night race would be a good change. “I’d be cool with a night race. NASCAR honestly doesn’t have enough of them anymore basically none till the 600 then late summer”.

Predicting NASCAR’s move to go on with a night event, an optimistic fan chimed in by writing, “They can race tonight, it looks like it will move out by 6:00”.
There’s still a possibility of the race starting as soon as the race track is dried out, but the possibility of a night race is something the NASCAR officials can consider.
